I bought these for my wife, who was having problems removing hooks swallowed by fish. This long tool does the job very well and has reduced the time out of the water and overall stress for the fish she catches and releases.

I do like the length and hand grips on the pliers. However, when using them to unhook a fish. If you don’t use the very tip of the pliers , the hook does not hold on tight and allows it to slip through the teeth of the pliers. Making it difficult to release the hook from the fishes mouth.

Durable and Utility is the 2 best words I could think of to describe these pliers. They are fantastic for putting in the boat for a number of different uses. I love how sturdy they feel in your hands and how long the nose is for getting to those really deep hooksets. The line cutters are also fantastic, as I use braided line and have had trouble finding a pair of pliers that do the job well with 14lb braided line. The only thing I would do different with these is change up the locking mechanism a bit to make it more user friendly, but everything else is great. Great buy and excellent value for your money.

This tool, "Hikary Long Nose Fishing Pliers," is an extremely handy to have within reach when you haul up a sizable catch - or any fish for that matter. I had originally bought a 6-Inch Locking-Clamp Curved Tip Fish Hook Remover, but unlocking the stubborn tool was too risky and time-consuming for real-life fishing. These Hikary Long Nose Fishing Pliers are easy to open and close, they have a deep reach; they have cutters for fishing line, and can clamp down on various lead beads and weights, as needed. It's a multi-function tool. I like the durable spring that gives me better control of the tool, as well as the flip-lock for easy storage in the accompanying sheath.

Thought thee were a nice design and long nose to use for deeper hooks, but found them to be VERY WEAK TIPS THAT TWIST AND WILL NOT MAINTAIN A GRIP!! I would stay away from these as they will not adequately grip a hook to remove, but the tips "Fall" or "Slide" over one another and lose grip. Flimsy metal thickness would be my diagnosis of the problem, metal is too flexible and not stiff enough to maintain a good grip. I used an old pair of surgical hemostats that I had as a backup and they worked great. Stay away from these TOO WEAK TO GRIP A HOOK.

Pros:-These pliers are very strong considering how light they are.-They are long, and thin enough, to easily maneuver to remove hooks.-The spring loaded design enables easy, one handed use.-The handle material allows a good grip on the pliers, even when they, or your hands are wet.Cons:-The design of the tip does not allow a strong, secure grip on hooks to either tighten knots, or break barbs off easily.-The safety latch (for keeping the pliers closed while not in use) is poorly designed, and easily swings open (while hanging on a vest). If you tighten the rivet (to prevent accidental opening of the pliers), you need your second hand to open the safety catch, which complicates matters if you're trying to manage a live release fish at the same time.Overall a great product for the price, though a better, more robust, safety catch would be a great improvement.
