Soil Sunrise All Natural Horticultural Charcoal for Container Gardening, Choose Size

Our Horticultural Charcoal is 100% natural, hardwood charcoal. Horticultural charcoal is typically used as a soil amendment for gardening. Horticultural charcoal aids in lightening heavy soils, to allow for better root growth. This in turn assists with drainage and flushing toxins. This soil additive is perfect for use with orchids, African Violets, and Venus Fly Trap planting as well.

Not intended for use in litter boxes, food or cosmetics.

DISCLAIMER: Though this horticultural charcoal is processed in the same way that “activated charcoal” is processed, the term “activated” is reserved for food grade charcoal.

  • Next apply ½ inch of horticultural charcoal to rock or pebble layer
  • Then apply 1 inch of primary substrate or potting soil to horticultural charcoal layer

aquarium filtering fish tank odor control

Aquariums

  • Add horticultural charcoal to your aquarium’s filter right after the tank’s mechanical filtration
  • Adding the charcoal before your mechanical filtration will result in tank debris absorption and cause your media to expire at a much faster rate

reptile vivariums

Reptile Vivariums

  • Begin by rinsing your horticultural charcoal with distilled or reverse osmosis water (AVOID tap water) to help remove tiny fragments and debris
  • Apply a layer of the rinsed charcoal to your vivarium
  • Clean out completely and apply a fresh layer of rinsed horticultural charcoal once per month

Not the Same Thing

Some people seem to thing these 2 items are the same, so we wanted to help clear up the confusion.

The bottom line is that horticultural charcoal is more versatile in its uses and applications (See above). Biochar serves a narrower role as a soil amendment only.

This is a good product. The charcoal is chopped quite small, but not too finely, and works well in all sizes of planters/pots. For the price advertised, I felt this was a very good value and would certainly purchase it again. Horticultural charcoal is essential to keep your indoor plants happy; the charcoal absorbs excess moisture and helps to prevent root rot. I am very happy with this purchase, and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Smaller chips than expected, but not a bad thing. Works great for what I needed, and is a large quantity.

I live in a small town so I like to give business to the local stores. However they don't always have what I want. In this case I was just plain lazy, didn't want to go out so I went to my fallback AMAZON! Perfect sized bag full of Horticultural Charcoal. various sized chunks that mix well with my other media. Price was fair too.

Prompt delivery. The content amount was appropriate for what I needed. The size of some charcoal particles was small and became a bit messy during setup of my planters.

This is a great soil amendment for house plants. You get a nice amount with a good texture that is not just powder/dust and it comes inside a resealable bag. Easy to use.

Been adding this to substrates for springtails, isopods, and a crested gecko. Very happy with the size of the charcoal: not too chunky, but not pulverized into powder.
