Forewarning...this is a longish review of the Hydronix HF3-10CLBK34, 10" Clear Housing. The desert area I live in has had less than satisfactory water quality but lately it has become even more burdensome on the skin. The itch and eczema resulting from the bad water quality was costly on our health and wellbeing...I tried just about all the popular shower filter attachments in addition to our water softener for the whole house. I have tried in the past Culligans, Aquasana, Aqua Bliss, etc...while these do help, they don't last long as the size of the filter is tiny as compared to a standard 10 inch x 2.5 inch filter that fits into the Hydronix. I literally spent thousands of dollars and time changing the tiny filters over the years. Then one day, I was thinking....hmm...why not use a standard whole house filter housing such as this one directly on the shower system (as pictured). To make this possible, I had to step down the entry and exit holes with the use of a 3/4 inch male to 1/2 inch female and a 3/4 inch male to 1/2 inch male brass fittings (they are sold at major home improvement stores or on Amazon thru a myriad brands). They go for about five to seven bucks for each piece. You will also need Teflon tape or equivalent and your preferred 10 inch by 2.5 inch filter. In my area, the major issue is sediment, do I am using a very common 100% polypropylene fibers filter that typically go for about five bucks each. You can also use a carbon filter or a combination filter that includes a GAC and sediment filter. The choice is almost endless due to the popularity of the 10 inch by 2.5 inch size format and the resulting pricing is very competitive. While it may look somewhat silly, you will be rewarded with a clean water shower that will last far longer than any filter system specifically meant to fit the shower system. The only downside for me is the silly look of having an oversized filter housing in plain view. I suppose that one could build a case for the housing and connect thru tubing to hide the large filter. I chose to do it naked like this so that I could see in real time when it is time to change filtersOh, yes...you also need a wrench to screw in the parts as hand turning is next to impossible. The Hydronix filter housing is a really well made (made in Taiwan) item with very basic function. The materials used is excellent and has no noticeable chemical smells upon arrival sometimes present in other housings. This is a very economical and effective product with many applications. I do recommend it for those looking for an effective water filtering solution.

During a recent ice storm the heat tape failed on the water line to my barn. I had failed to drain the line before shutting off the water so something had to give when the lines froze. In this case the water in the filter housing froze. Instead of breaking the fittings or lines the clear tank broke at the screw fitting. This may sound like a problem but it was the easiest part in the system to replace. The threaded portion was easy to remove and the clear canister was easy to replace, I was back in business in a few minutes. I use several of these filter housing around the farm so I had a spare. This one had been in service in an exposed area in full sunlight so I expect it had degraded over the years. The low price on Amazon made this a cheap fix.

The screw-on canister can be damaged, Then, to continue water service on a single filter setup, one needs to have this as a spare part to provide uninterrupted filtered water service. Low cost, good construction canister.

I ordered it to use as a CO2 scrubber in my saltwater fish tank works perfectly for when I’m using it for the only downside was the fact that it didn’t come with a mounting bracket other than that it’s a perfect fit and for the price You can’t beat it on other sites algae scrappers go for over $100 After my DIY this one I spent a total of $30 for everything I needed

Live off grid and put these on all water collection systems. Have choices of filters to use to make water safe. Only complaint is they keep going up in price so buy them now... will freeze though so take measures in winter to prevent cracking....

I got these a while ago when they were on sale over Christmas. I use them for a custom water filtration application in a house I am building.I have to say I’m pretty displeased with their sealing properties. Despite using quality Teflon tape I still have minute leaks near the threads.Anyone else buying this product here’s a few things to keep in mind.1. Don’t get the white cap version of this product get the black cap, reason being the white cap has no threads for screw mounting on a bracket2. You have to use pipe dope for this project3. The brackets for this product or a bit pricey I ended up making my own from a stock of folded steel.Send the manufacturers of this product I would encourage you to consider using nylon inserts for the threaded ports or using brass inserts, yes I know this will raise the price, but it makes absolutely no sense to sell a product that’s going to fail by design. Also this requires a vent valve.

Ok I keep buying these for the house and I gotta say these water filters housing work amazing and are sturdy the shipping has gotten better with them and they work with the 10†filters I used one for the shower, bathroom and kitchen sink, dishwasher and now washer these alone make a huge difference I added a photo of how well these housings are.

Product came fast and the quality was very good. Has a seal in the plastic clear container and it works well. I bought two. The items were a great price I just wish I could have got all the fittings for as great a deal. Fittings cost 3 times more than the tanks. I had no leaks after the install. Strong build just like any product. Do not over tighten and use Teflon tape 5-7 wraps per thread.

This appears to be well made given the price point. The plastic housings are thick and I was able to install it without leaks or cracking the housing. It did not come with a mounting bracket which is why I gave it 4 stars. Also, it does not come with a pressure relief valve or a wrench which I did not require in my application and is consistent with the price point.I heeded warnings in the reviews of these budget filters regarding leaking at the ports so i used 8 wraps of Teflon tape and a little pipe pipe dope over that. You want to be sure the 3/4" male adapter does not bottom out before the threads seal. The issue I see with all these filters is that they rely on the tapered IP threads to seal. i.e. they do not use a face seal washer so the tapered fit has to be perfect. Also, be sure to use silicon lubricant on the O-ring as it makes it way easier to remove the basket to change the filter.

I got this as an inline filter for filling pools and hot tubs. The outlet connection cracked when installing a 3/4" NPT adapter with very little force.Unfortunately it's out of the return period, so looks like I'm stuck with a leaky setup. If you buy this, be sure to pressure test it as soon as you get it.
