When I tested this on my car mobile GMRS unit, it did pretty well. About the same as the much bigger Nagoya whip I have on my Jeep. However, it really made a dramatic change when I hooked it up to my at-home base unit, which had been running off a simple 14" car antenna, and was originally what I purchased this for. Holy smokes. Added about 50% more range to the home unit. This antenna is currently on top of my desk, using an old steel cookie sheet for a ground plane, and it PUNCHES with this antenna. I am going to roof mount it soon, and have no doubt the range will be increased even more. SWR about 1.1 on GMRS channels, 25 watt station. Where I was getting a mile and a half before (thickly urban area with lots of blocking buildings and trees), now I can reach out well over 2.25 miles.I can't attest to Ham usage, but if you're looking for an antenna that really packs a punch on GMRS, this is a GREAT buy.[edit] I went up on my roof and attached this to a flat piece of steel. Test results were unbelievable. I am punching 4-6 miles from home with it now. It picks up repeaters and traffic that I had never been able to hear before.[edit 5/5/24] I attached this to the very top of my chimney, running coax to my base station. (Base station in house was also upgraded to a 50w GMRS unit.) The range on this is unbelievable. Now able to hit two repeaters that were out of range, with the antenna at ground level, and can simplex up to 12 miles away. This is shockingly good due to the terrain/geography of N Dallas. With the 25w put in my vehicle, I can simplex 11 miles west, 10 miles south, and 6 miles north. East is hit or miss, due to many hills and buildings, but gets from 3-6 miles. Height is might, and this antenna works really well.

I likes the performance of this antenna so I purchased a second one for my SUV. It has good range on both 2 meters and 440.It is easy to attach and remove with the magnet base.

Was able to transmit and recieve on repeaters from about 40 miles away without any issues however swr was over 7 on all gmrs channels. Seemed to handle weather just fine no bare medal. Magnet stayed on a highway speeds.

I didn't expect much out if this antenna, but to my surprise, it's working well as an indoor antenna on the ham and GMRS. I have it sitting on a cookie sheet on top of my refrigerator, using low power, I am hitting the repeaters with a swr of 1.3!

Amazing antenna. SWR is very good ob nothing 2M and 70cm. Did not need to adjust at all. Receive signal quality improved considerably. Tried it indoors on my refrigerator for the ground plane and worked as good as outdoors. I am impressed so much that I ordered a 2nd one. Tried it mobile and signal was doubled in testing it with another portable 2 miles away. Would highly recommended it. Both bands improved in Transmit and Receive. Very well constructed with RG58 and PL259.

This is a great antenna, swr is flat on 5 watts and 1.5 on 45watts, works very well, sometimes I think it works better then my other more expensive antennas, looks cool on my truck as well, good conversation starter, would buy again, and the price is right.

i was the hope to have a nice little antenna with a respectable vswr for the center frequency 146Mhz (2m band amateur radio = 144 to 148Mhz).. may i have received a bad one (not tuned or badly tuned).. vswr checked with my nanovna, i show here my results.. the amateur bands are the reddish frequency area..slide #1, the center show at 146mhz a vswr of 3.7slide #2, but because the curve was strange, i have done a wider frequency test for to see where is the best "resonance" of this antenna supposed be good for VHF 144Mhz and as you see, the best is too lower (119Mhz) and too higher (173Mhz)..slide #3, UHF band is much much better (almost perfect) but a bit narrow..what i have learned.. never buy an antenna not tunable (no screws on the base for an adjustment), the only way possible is to cut/saw one side (at your risk of to overpass the frequency expected) and seriously, the 119Mhz here is too far for the hope of to reach 146Mhz less any loss of performance on the UHF side.. yes you can use it for a scanner/receiver as a "random wire" but in transmit, it's at your risks..i was asked the question here about "anyone have measured the vswr?" and silent.. now you have my measurements and if you can test it too, add more data.. because data speak more than the stars/comments..item returned..
