After having experienced liftgate latch actuator failure for the third time in a few months on my 2010 Ford Escape, this time having it happen during a tailgate with a trunk full of coolers, table and grill, I decided it was time to replace the part. (I could hear the switch engage, and inspected the connections, so I knew the failure wasn't electrical related and that this part was the likely issue). I wish I had done it sooner.A quick search for a replacement part led me to the usual autoparts suppliers, but they sold only OEM certified parts and wanted $115 or more. I researched the failure history with this part and quickly realized that grabbing one of a junker at a U-Pull-n-Pay lot wasn't going to cut it, and I'd be back replacing the unit in no time if it wasn't already defective, so that brought me to Amazon and this part here. The reviews worried me at first, no instructions, ill fitting connection seats, etc. But I ignored them and I'm very glad I did. First, any number of youtube videos will show you what you need to replace this part. All you need is a slotted screwdriver (or I used a chisel/mini pry bar) and a Philips screwdriver to remove the plastics, then a T-25 torx wrench to take out the three screws holding the actual latch mechanism in place (may need some breakfree lubricant like WD40). Total time for disassembly 5 - 10 minutes. Put in the new part in reverse and everything lined up perfectly, 100%. The wire seats were perfect and all connectors clicked right into place. Screw it in, put back the plastics, activate the latch for the first time and close the door. Total time for replacement was under 20 minutes. The sound of operation of the mechanism is a little more pronounced than the one it replaced. This makes me think the actuator may be overtourquing the latch a little and maybe it will fail sooner, but that's speculation. Other than that the whole assembly works just as well as the stock part when it was new. I've used it for a couple weeks and test the trunk at least once daily and there have been no issues, so as long as this lasts a couple years, then I'll say it was worth the cost, but there's no reason to assume it won't last the remainder of the vehicles life. Also, just FYI, I also upgraded the gasket along the glass door of the liftgate as well as placed a thin plastic shielding (molded from a used milk jug) over the new liftgate actuator to deflect water to help alleviate what is assumed to be the cause of this parts failure, so if this part fails, it will be all of it's own doing, I hope.

I own a 2010 ford escape and had intermit trouble with the liftgate actuator so I knew it was time for a replacement. The install was very easy. As soon as you pull off the plastic rear panel, you will notice there are just a few screws that hold the actuator in place. You will need the same screws to install it so try not to strip them when you pull them out. Only took me about 10 minutes to do the job. Also, be careful pulling that rear panel as the metal clips used to hold it in place have a tendency to stick to the liftgate frame . I had to install those back on the rear panel before putting that back on. The price was at least half of what I would've paid for a Motorcraft product so I am happy about this purchase. Works great now, no more issues.

The quality of this latch is, in my opinion, just as good as the Ford OEM part. I just had to remove the inner plastic cover by removing four Philips head screws and pulling out the clips by hand. Then the unit itself had three T-25 torx screws. All the holes lined up and twenty minutes from start to finish I was done. Saved a lot of money.
