Installed over an existing 4x4 post. I did have to take a piece of wood and put over the top while I used a sledge hammer to get the cover over the 4x4. Well worth the effort and it looks great.

It's nice, but it's so tight on a 4x4 i couldn't get it to drop on. I managed to push it on about 6 inches before it bound up and locked tight. No movement whatsoever. After wiggling it off 2 times and rotating it, with the same results, i had to pull it AND the wooden post out. I ended up banging the post on concrete while holding the metal sleeve. After 15 minutes of this the wooden post was fully covered. I like it, but if you buy make sure you can get some muscle to help - it won't just slide on.

This has so many different mounting holes and hardware for different styles of mailboxes. Hopefully the city crew won't make me have to keep replacing mailbox post when it snows, but if they do this is the only one I will buy.

Black post cover slipped on our old wooden post perfectly. Had to pound on it a bit to slide to the bottom where the grass grows with a rubber mallet. Looks great.

You will still need a wooden 4x4 mailbox post. Description implied this could be used without a post but has since been updated.Kit comes with 2 adapter plates and required hardware for attaching to a mailbox. The larger adapter plate perfectly fit a large contractor locking mailbox I purchased recently.Installation is pretty easy once the wood post is secured in the ground. Use a rubber mallet if needed to tap the post sleeve down onto the post and into proper position without damaging the sleeve.Looks good and should add some stability to the mailbox, and durability to the post.

"Use it alone in the ground, connect with a post base for concrete, or pair with a wooden post for in-ground installation."This is why I selected this mailbox post "Use it alone in the ground". As all hardware is included, I opened it up looking to find the metal pieces to drive into the ground so that I don't have to put a wooden post in or pour concrete. I don't have a post hole digger nor do I really want to rip up the area. There was nothing. It needs to be mounted over a wooden post!I'll take a look at hardware stores to hopefully find a way to mount this without putting in a wood post, but what I had hoped to install this weekend now needs to wait for a warmer day or additional expense.It looks like a quality post and probably would have earned five stars if the description had been accurate. (Although I wouldn't have ordered it then.)Received free through Vine, but the rating is all mine.
