How to Install an In Line Switch
Slit the cord where you want the switch.
Cut apart the line and insert the cord into the wire channel on the switch bottom.
Press the switch halves together and tighten the switch screw.

I have an older IKEA Tertial lamp that I use as a desk lamp. This particular model has the rotary switch in the top of the light. Over time the rotary switch has gotten harder to turn so I went looking for a means of addressing this issue.While I found plenty of replacement rotary switches I opted for an inline switch akin to what the newer IKEA Tertial lamps are using.This switch was perfect for my needs.Pros: compact, rocker switch, separate retaining clamps/grips for the cord, no soldering necessary, decent price (especially for 2 in the pack)Cons: (minor) tight fit getting the wires into the contact terminals

Fast shipping but I wanted only one switch. The mechanical aspects are perfect. It’s rugged, no soldering all contacts are firm and there are cable anchors at both ends. You should offer a pack of one switch and charge more for it because I would have paid the price since I only needed one. Now, I have an unused switch sitting in my tool box and I won’t be back to your website for another for twice the time. I hope you enjoyed my economic and marketing lesson.

It's a looks large, but it's works out to be perfect. It's a SPST switch. Good labeling for proper wiring to switch for polarized plugs and safe wiring configuration.It works well.

Thankfully these switches come in a 2 pack. The first one I installed, the rocker switch did not fully engage when placed in the "on" position. So I tossed it. The second one works well, for now, we will see how robust it is over time. Hopefully my 50% failure rate was an anomaly. I like the positive action of the switch vs the very cheap rotary switch I replaced.Regarding installation, if you are the type of person who has a set of precision Phillips screwdrivers and a wire stripper and are comfortable and patient with handling tiny screws, you can tackle this project. When you remove the two screws that hold the two halves of the switch outer shell and look at the innards, hopefully the design makes the installation steps obvious. I used a headlamp trained on the work and reading glasses to help see what's going on.You are very likely working with a polarized electric plug and cord. The cord has two isolated wires, find the wire with a tiny bit of label writing on it and ensure that the labeled wires of the cord are in the same relative position on both the supply side and the outgoing side of the switch, either both labeled wires on the "bottom" as you look at the interior of the switch, or both on the "top." Strip the wire ends ~ 8mm. I didn't bother getting out a soldering gun but a tiny, tiny bit of solder would likely be helpful to tame the little strands on the stripped wire ends. Also, I found that, when inserting the stripped wire ends into their respective switch contact blocks, try to insert both wire ends simultaneously, not worrying about how the cord will be aligned within the switch until after the wire ends are secured in the contact blocks.Good luck.

Exactly what I wanted to add an on/off switch for an old antique lamp cord. I didn’t want to completely rewire the lamp, just needed to be able to turn off without unplugging the lamp. I like this switch better than the rotary type switch. The switches are nicely designed but no instructions are included. In the Amazon listing, there is a photo showing how to wire it. You will need a wire cutter to snip your cord and you’ll need to strip the insulation from the wires. The screws inside are very small so you also need a small Phillips head screwdriver or a very small flat screwdriver to remove the screws and reinstall them. Overall, I am pleased with this switch and I would buy again, but probably won’t need to because there are two switches in this package! Good value!
