I love the sound of a quality Kalimba. It's soothing, calming and puts me in a peaceful and happy state. I looked long and hard for a 17 key kalimba. I wanted a solid board because of the superior tonality vs the box. I also didn't care about the price because sound quality was more important and none of them really break the bank. After a lot of listening to different kalimbas it came down to this one(Ling ting) and a Gecko. I noticed in a couple videos the higher keys in the gecko sounded a little "plinky" so I decided to go with this Ling Ting. I am so happy I did. Every key sounds beautiful and the quality is flawless. It has excellent quality control as the keys are all on the same level with each other(see picture) which I find to be extremely important to play well. I've been playing every day for the past couple weeks and it has brought me great joy. I highly recommend this kalimba. I got the K17A.It takes patience and practice to learn to play well, but soon you will produce beautiful music. The downside is that you really need to play with your thumb nails and if they are very short like mine, that can be challenging especially if you chip one. I wish someone would engineer a thumb pick for the kalimba, in my case big ones for guys, that worked well. The silicone picks are a joke. The silicone renders an poor sound and are very uncomfortable. Anyhow, I don't blame the kalimba for this. This is a great Kalimba and I'm sure you will love it as I do.Ps. The song Sukiyaki is easy to learn and sounds great on the kalimba. Give it a try.Thank you Ling Ting!Eric

I liked the quality of sound, packaging and overall look. Chromatic build gives a lot of freedom. It included the tuning key and piezo sound pick up, which is great, thumb protectors and note stickers, which is fine, it was missing a tuning hammer, which is a bummer. I feel like $75 should pay for the full package, but I can't be too upset when I'm using the instrument, so overall I'd recommend this seller and this instrument. This is my third calimba and so far (compared to the coconut one and a mid-pro level one) it's my favorite. Looks great, feels smooth (if maybe a little too polished, I like the wood texture and this one is just laquered to the point of feeling a bit plastic-y), sound is loud and clear on almost every key except for #E, which is just too short to give a good sound.

I was happy with my old Gecko hollow body, but I kept seeing rave-up reviews for the LingTing K17A. Some people on youtube even demonstrated how the end tines resonate, they don't have that plinky sound. So I had to try it.The reviews were spot on - this is absolutely the best to be had for an affordable price. The sound is superb! It's well crafted, excellent quality. If you want equal or better, you're looking at spending hundreds on a Bolf or similar. And LingTing hooks you up with a lot of swag. Instructions, a pickup, a tuning hammer, dust cloth, a nice bag, thumb protectors, even an ornamental tassel and a tremolo chain. The only thing that could be done better is if they engraved the tines. I can never get those little stickers on as straight as I'd like. But that's a VERY minor issue, and some people change the tuning and may prefer it this way.I usually toss boxes, but I'm keeping the one this came in. It's a nice box, it's a little extra protection, and the bonus is that if you put the kalimba on it and play, it acts like an amplifier. All in all, I'd recommend this to everyone regardless of skill level. It's the best bang for the buck.

I have owned, and played with, kalimbas for over 20 years, mostly hollow body type. Was doubtful at first of the solid body since they are definitely less resonant. Nevertheless, the 21-key LingTing is an excellent choice in my experience. The tones are beautiful, soft & true. Extras that come with it are nice although extraneous. The hard shell case & piezo pickup would have been enough. They are very helpful. There is a burlap carrying bag, a cloth, a tassle and a chain included plus stickers, & pamphlet etc. Don't really need the bag or cloth, and any moderately heavy jewellery chain will do the tremolo job.The high point of the LingTing is the instrument's superior quality. Pure and precise, it makes others seem like fun party toys while this one is a true musical instrument.Once having decided to "go big or go home," 70 bucks seemed a bit steep but I do not regret it one bit. Played through a 15W amp, this sounds angelic and can fill the room.Spend a week or two just dabbling with it, and you begin to get a feel for the tones so you can fake it and do fine. Strike 2 keys on one side and one about two steps lower or higher on the other side, and you can play chords. It takes a little practice, sure, but the instrument makes practising a real joy. Very calming and probably good for the soul, depending on how trashed your soul is from covid social stresses, etc. I highly recommend the LingTing, especially if you take your music seriously. Think of it not as a toy, but as an investment in your musical talent.

The kalimba produced good sounds but the quality is not so good. The wood is smooth and OK. The tuning hammer broke into 2 pieces on the first use. As some tines were slightly off it was rather difficult to tune with a broken hammer. One of the screws was not painted properly (ie one gold and the other kinda blakish) the z bracet is not perfectly aligned horizontally. I do not have time to return the product or organise swaps etc. Just taking my time to review to help future buyers

This Sea Whisperer Ling Ting 17 key kalimba is tuned to B major. Superior clear resonating sound from slimmer curved blank tines. Why choose B over C? Can be played just as if in C but the sound is at a generally more comfortable to listen to scale. The smooth unvarnished wood is a beautiful Hedgehog Rosewood. Multi-colored medium to blond shades of brown. Will not get into size specifics but it has a dense body and could be heavier than what you are use to. The smaller dimensions makes it easier to handle and play. This both looks and feels like a high grade kalimba. Perhaps a beginner could chose a less pricey one to start learning that has wider tines. The usual extras are included plus a stick on amplifier, tremolo chain and green decorative tassel. The semi-hard protective case is well made. Please note that I placed fish stickers on the wood which can easily be removed without damaging. Suggest watching a few of the many YouTube reviews and kalimba players using this model.
