I got this Kalimba to bring more music and creativity into my spiritual growth practice, and overall, I’m really happy with it. It’s a beautiful little instrument-lightweight, easy to hold, and the sound is lovely once you start figuring it out. It does come with a tuning hammer, and I’ll admit, tuning it was a bit of a challenge at first. That’s probably more on me than the Kalimba itself! I ended up watching a couple of online videos, and after playing around with it, I got it sounding much better. If you’re new to this, I’d definitely recommend checking out some tutorials.What I really like is how much fun it’s brought into my life. It’s simple enough that even a beginner like me can pick it up and start playing around, and it’s inspired me to get a couple of other small instruments to experiment with. My granddaughter and I have been having the best time making music together-it’s turned into a great bonding activity for us.If I had to point out a downside, it’s that the tuning process could be a little intimidating if you’ve never done it before. Maybe clearer instructions or a video link would help. But honestly, once you get the hang of it, it’s smooth sailing. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this Kalimba to anyone looking to explore music in a fun, accessible way. It’s a great value and a great addition to our little home music sessions!

The instrument is very well made. The quality is very impressive and it was fun to play around with. My kids spent hours playing with it and we hope to learn how to seriously play on it soon. Super helpful that they provide tuning apps to download too.

I have been very enthusiastic about these little thumb pianos and the others I have orderedare all tuned almost perfect. This one was almost completely out of tune, one note off in eitherdirection. Very discouraging if had been given to someone as a gift!! and they wouldn't know whatto make of it nor care to even try...if it sounded so odd! Pretty color tho and nice ring to it.. I decided to tune it to the sound I am used to -which is one key below the normal C, which soundsso familiar, since I think for some reason my mother had her piano tuned one key low for th whole C Scale! but everything in perfect pitch, which I retain to today in memory!!

I am a professional musician. I wasn’t sure what to expect, quality-wise, with this kalimba. I wasn’t expecting pro quality, but just something to relax and improvise on. I was surprised by two things about this Kalimba: first, the tone quality is really nice. It’s not harsh, but instead a resonant, sweet bell-like quality. Second, the tuning of the “tines†was quite far out of tune in some of the tines. Example, the note D was almost a whole step higher than the note E, and the E should have actually been a step higher.I expected the tuning to be imperfect, and found the adjusting tuning hammer in the box. However, the hammer doesn’t easily move the tines (bars? Rods?), so trying to adjust even one whole step seemed interminable, and I gave up after about a half step. Unless there’s a secret way to loosen the mechanism that holds the “tines†tightly in place, tapping with the small tuning hammer will take a really long time to adjust all the pitches, which are engraved with the names of a C Major scale. I haven’t quite figured out a fix yet. Maybe a bigger hammer with a rubber cover?It’s too bad it’s so hard to fix the tuning, because the good wood quality, smooth finishing, and pretty tone on all the sounding tines are strong assets. I will update my review if I figure out a better solution for tuning.

I got this on a whim for my daughter to play for her 1 year old. Now, granted she has zero musical instrument skill/training, nor does her husband. That said, they are always open to creative, interesting ways to engage their baby and this was an amazing hit. The instrument is exceedingly lovely and will be wonderful for him as he grows. The sound, even for a novice w/ no musical talent is gorgeous. For someone with training or some natural talent this would be a perfect, thoughtful gift especially for the stunningly low price. I'd give it more stars if I could!

As any musical instrument, you need to practice if you want to be good at playing. It is well made, the finishing both on the wood as on the keys is very nice. It is comfortable to hold. The biggest opportunity is with the tuning hammer, the handle is very thin, it is still usable but it would be easier to use if it was thicker or at least not thin and round. Overall, a very nice well polished musical instrument.
