I ordered this for my 10 year old, going on 15, grand daughter. I wanted something other than tech or junk and this fits the bill. It's beautiful, great quality, and even if it takes her a year to pick it up she'll have it forever. Timeless in my mind. 10, 16, 20.I highly recommend this product, and the customer service follow up was impressive.

My granddaughter that is on the autism spectrum loved it a d was able to figure out music on her own. Her Mom said it needed tuning. I bought it on the fly and it was worth it.

Sound isn’t great, very shallow and doesn’t have any resonance. It also goes off key easily, but is still fun for my kids.

I love that it came with a necklace and tuning mallet. Very useful. Also, I'm glad it came with a recommendation for an app to help tune the kalimba, but it would be useful to have a guide for which notes each tine should be tuned to.After some searching I did find a couple recommendations. It seems like there are multiple tuning options depending on the region of music you want to play. This bit of info should really be included in the box though.
