This plier does everything. Wish it had twin grip head but still amazing. Jaws open to 1.5 inch easily. Not much torque at that opening. But who really needs that big every day, besides us firefighters? Perfect for bolts or anything.

These is an excellent quality tool, as expected for Knipex. I paid the Knipex price because the video shows the pliers grabbing onto a round piece so there is no need to continue to grip the two handles together, similar to the way Vise Grip pliers work. I wanted this feature because I might need to clamp it to an axle nut on a motorcycle rear wheel and then step on the handles to loosen it. It will not work in this application. The Knipex pliers will grip but they require the gripped object to deform. The tubing in the video is deforming to provide the spring load to keep the pliers engaged, so in that sense, the video isn't deceptive, but it's misleading by implying that the pliers themselves are capable of gripping and holding any object, but this self locking feature does not work with solid objects that cannot provide the spring function needed for the pliers to lock. Try to grab a solid object and the pliers will grip well enough to support their own weight but will fall off immediately when any force is applied to the handles.

For some reason I loose tongue and groove pliers more often than any other tool. So I have ended up trying all the major brands (aside from the newish Greenlee handtool brand)and these are by far the best. As always from Knipex the metal is of excellent type. Very strong and lightly weighted. The design is superb providing plenty of gripping force and pinch resistance. The fact that the handles cannot come together and pinch you makes them a good value at any price. Interestingly you won't need the pinch protection too often because the the head design is so well thought out that they rarely slip. The teeth are sharper and made at a perfect angle much more so than other brands. I haven't measured them but they seem to open wider than similar sized pliers from other manufacturers. I've been using mine daily on the job for over a year now and have just started to notice a small amount of wear on the teeth. That's better than I usually get. I didnt give 5 stars for the sole reason of the handle coverings. They are slip resistant enough and work great in that respect. They are just so thin it's like using a pair with no handle covering. Next time I'll pay the extra few dollars for the professional style red and blue handles.

When I was a mere freshman in college and found myself fighting with a pair of conventional Channel Locks (let me clarify and say I went to a maritime academy), my 1st engineer pulled a pair of these out of his back pocket. He said that, not only were they just all around better, but because the handles were set closer together I (as a girl with smaller and, shall we say, less muscular hands) would be able to get a stronger grip on them. He was exactly right. Naturally, I searched Amazon that very evening and ordered a pair. Were they more expensive than Channel Locks? Yes. Was it completely worth it, even as student? Absolutely. One of the best purchases I've made. Fast forward several years (no longer a starving student), I've still got them, and they're still one of my favorite tools. When I'm on a ship, I carry them with me all the time. I wouldn't dream of going to the engine room without them. The highlights:Narrow jaws (by which I mean thin). They can get into tight spots with no problem.Wide jaws (sounds contradictory, I know). The jaws open up nice and wide, with nine 'settings' making it easy to get the right size.Great grip. Hex, square, round (intentionally or rounded off by accident), big, small, the jaws aren't going to slip because...Close-set handles. Great for everyone to get a good hold on, but especially those of us with smaller hands. And...No-pinch design. The handles don't come so close together that they can pinch you (which is just the worst). The only thing you have to watch out for with these is that people will want to borrow them...and they'll be loathe to give them back.

Immediately feel the difference, when using two similar pliers from two brands together , and found Knipex is easier to grip and the jaws have lesser play.So decided to buy another to work as a pair

Standard Knipex quality. These are excellent pliers and I think everyone needs this style. I have a pair of 10" Cobra pliers which are essentially the same except they use a push button lock instead of this style on the Alligators where you open the jaws up to slide wider or narrower. I like both so I think it's really up to preference. The jaws seems pretty much the same, with the directional teeth. I always have a pair of Knipex pliers handy and use them all the time! Buy a pair - you won't be disappointed!
