Scientifically - Basella alba, but known by several common names worldwide, including: Malabar Spinach, Ceylon Spinach, Indian Spinach, Climbing Spinach, Vine Spinach, Creeping Spinach, Buffalo Spinach, Poi, Phak Plang, Alugbati, Bachali Kura, Basale Soppu, Rang Jhora, Rao Mung Toi, Rau Mong Toi, Shan Tsoi, Mong Toi. This leafy annual can grow as a tender perennial in tropical climates. Its succulent stems often feature the classic malabar spinach green stem, admired for ornamental beauty and culinary use.

For optimal growth, start your spinach seed indoors 6–8 weeks before the final frost or sow directly outdoors when the soil temperature is at least 60°F. Seeds germinate in 7–14 days if kept warm and moist. In cooler zones, treat Malabar as an annual, but in warmer climates, it thrives year-round. With abundant foliage, consider succession planting for multiple harvests. Seeds spinach enthusiasts appreciate this plant's vigorous growth and steady harvest schedule—from baby leaves to mature foliage.

A key advantage of this vining species is its resistance to spinach challenges, like bolting in high heat. Its durability makes it ideal for spinach seeds planting in hot climates. The thick, tender leaves work well in salads, stir-fries, or soups. With minimal effort, enjoy repeated yields of malabar spinach green stem, ensuring a fresh supply of nutritious meals.

Whether a seasoned gardener or beginner, spinach seeds organic are a must-have in any gardener’s collection. Transform bare corners into lush forests of leafy vegetables. Rich in vitamins A, C, iron, and calcium, Malabar tolerates extreme heat, making it perfect for subtropical regions. Very good germination rate. Green malabar spinach grows slower than the red one but they last longer, an ideal vegetable for summer, grows very well in hot weather. Leaves are tender no matter how big they are, I do not taste difference between the red and green kinds.

I cannot grow these until next spring. These came unmarked as to what the seeds are inside, I am still trying to figure that out, but they did come, so I was thankful for that..

After multiple tries in greenhouse and growing tray we could not get these seeds to germinate. We used multiple systems and tried 3 times to get them to germinate or grow with no results.
