This is a great tool, at an incredibly low price for HSS. The only way that you're going to get a thinner cut on a parting tool is if you modify a pocket knife (which I did, and use it for parting custom made dowels, and purches for parakeets). This is probably a good scraper for making a dovetail for holding wood on a chuck that will be converted to a bowl, or box (I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising). Sorby wants about 4x more. I'll stick with this. More to follow.

Excellent. I use mine on an occasional basis for cleaning up or removing extra material from a pen blank. Not many kits require such things so it doesn't get used much. Nonetheless, it has come in handy when needed. It's sharp, true, and strong.

As a parting tool it does not do what I expected, it binds up a lot and does not cut cleanly.

My husband says this is better than a more expensive one he had bought for himself! The more expensive one broke, and this one is still going strong! He turns a lot of bowls on his small lathe. So it gets used a lot. It is strong and is still sharp.

Works as expected, it's not made to be long or large. It is as shown in the picture.Most woodworking tools and chisels require sharpening when you receive them. This is common practice.

With many tools for the lathe retailing well in excess of one hundred dollars I really didn't expect much from this, but decided that it wasn't much money to risk. I am happily surprised by the quality of construction and it's durability. This has replaced my old parting tool and I really like the precision that is now possible.

Good tenon maker but don't expect to part off pieces too easily if they are thick without making a second cut to widen the groove, but I guess that is not what it was intended for. holds an edge well. For the price though very good.

Only needs (as expected) good sharpening and makes a very useful tool for complementing other lathe chisels.

It works as described but it is not well made. Tang not centred in handle and finish is not well done. Steel seems solid though when I parted a 3 inch walnut stock. Was willing to forego some quality for a low cost parter so happy with what I got knowing that it is a Chinese made tool.

Nice and sturdy tool. Keeps an edge decently. 1/3 the price of similar ones at Lee valley. I use it for a parting tool. Good weight to it.
