The description does not lie, this is definitely a much more well engineered outlet compared to your regular every day one, the connection lugs seem to be much more robust there's a lot more plastic that gives it a more firm and rugged feel.Just make sure you get the matching face plate for the outlet as its a bit bigger than your standard one, or if your using one of those RV style outlet housings be prepared to modify the plate so it fits.Overall though the build quality suggests this thing will last a long time before anything starts failing, so hopefully I don't have to update this review saying something went wrong.

When I installed our previous 14-50 outlet to charge our Rivian R1S, this one didn't exist. As soon as I watched Tom Molougney's State of Charge channel on this adapter, I bought one. As soon as I removed the lightweight one, I discovered that it had already begun to burn. I was very lucky because it could have been much worse a few more charges. I removed the old one, cut off the burnt ends and reterminated it and also cleaned the plug with a wire brush. I reinstalled everything with the new beefier one and torqued it to 75 in-lb and everything now works great. This one looks much more heavy duty than the damaged one. I'd highly recommend you replace your NEMA 14-50 adapter with this if you are using it for EV charging. Spending a little more is much better than having a burned home with your valuables. I'm glad Leviton came out with this EV specific 240V outlet for charging.

This stopped the tesla thermal errors that were being thrown because of an overheating outlet. Make sure to find the bigger outlet plate cover for it, but its so heavy duty and solid it weighs 2x what a standard 14-50 weighs. I highly recommend.

Just mounted into an external rv enclosure. Diameter of plug is larger then original plug. I had to drill out the enclosure mounting plate.After charging for 1 hour at 30 amps, no noticeable warmth from the enclosure.Only complaint is requiring to enlarge the hole. Understandable for the heavy duty build.

This EV-rated 14-50R is just what you need if you’re running EVSE (for EV charging) on your 240V circuit. It’s big and beefy. Connectors clamp in securely with a 4 mm Allen interface. Use a torque wrench and set that specified 75 in-lb torque. Don’t compromise on the receptacle!

Kept item even though I found much cheaper at Home Depot . Working well. The basic plug I had installed grey flashed and was not holding up well as a car charger plug receptical.

I have used several type of available plus that say they will fit and can be used for EV charging. However, EV car plugs are different and are not dryer or oven and those plugs shouldn’t be used. The correct EV plug have larger and heavier contacts and will not burn out and heat up. They do cost more and their is a reason form that, better quality materials. The big box stores do not know the difference and are recommending the wrong plus and is a melt down fire hazard. Only take recommendations of the correct wire, breaker, and plug from a qualified electrician if you are doing a self installation.

I watched a couple of YouTube videos on the difference between one you get for your dryer, your dryer only run for and couple of hours at best. Your EV will be pulling high current for 4 to 8 hours a night, well worth the investment for your house not to catch on fire.

Great quality compared to the 5$ home depot range plug, LOTS of copper inside but advise is to be care not to loosen the screws all the way make sure they are still engaged to avoid stripping the screws specially after tightening the 75inlb

I had one of those cheap oven/dryer outlets (white plastic one) and I've seen enough photos of them melting when charging an EV to give me pause. The difference in quality between the old and new is quite noticeable. Along with a short torque wrench, it was easy to torque it tight to 75 in-lbs. Make sure to torque the wires up to spec. That is critical!I am feeling much better about this charging outlet now. I had to use a mud ring to make the outlet fit the old box, but that was easy and inexpensive to do. Make sure to pick the right cover for it as Amazon often suggest the wrong one. I don't intend to unplug/plug the EVSE regularly so this outlet should last for a super long time.

Used it for an EV installation and everything works fine. Using 8AWG wire in a normal 2 gang box is a little tight with this outlet. The wires come in from the sides so it's hard to bend them and still push the outlet back into the box. Using a 2 gang box (per the instructions) might be a problem for some people. If you are replacing a traditional square box outlet this won't fit. Make sure to download the installation instructions from the Leviton site first and make sure you have understood the right box dimensions you need. I was doing a new install so it was no problem.Also it's important to follow the tightening instructions and to use a torque screwdriver or wrench to make sure the wires are set right.

Good quality, lot of copper, wires are strongly attached with 75inch-pound force to the screws. I am pretty sure that it won't melt like the "industrial" oven outlets that it replace. Only negative is that it uses a 4.465inch diameter cover plate while Amazon recommends a 4.15 part that does not fit. Metal box that was previously used by the oven outlet does not fit also. Beware while purchasing. I put 4 stars because of poor instructions about dimensions, while being described as using "standard" fitting, it does not fit any boxes or plates I could find.
