This steel-reinforced license plate plate is a game-changer! I installed it under my license plate and added a frame on top—it’s held up perfectly through countless car washes without a scratch or wobble. After extensive research, this is by far the most durable and reliable option I’ve found. Highly recommend!

The product description describes this as made from heavy gauge stainless steel.. The term heavy duty used without a measurement or reference is meaningless. Further down the product description the plate is described as 1 mm thick. To me, with experience welding tractor and trailer steel, 1 mm is not heavy duty. I measured the backing plate with my welder gauge, and it fits into the 18 gauge slot, which is .0478 inches or 1.214 mm. Not flimsy, but a thickness which can be bent using bare hands. It is not magnetic, so I assume the description of stainless steel is accurate. Like some other reviewers, my backing plate has one well-finished side. The other side has raised striations which to me appear to have been created by placing that side of the plate on a sheet of corrugated cardboard. With properly applied powder coating that should not happen, so my theory is that the plate was spray painted. Having a bad side is not a problem, though, since it can be hidden with the license plate. I am using the plate on my equipment trailer, and the good side does show. Both the plate and the trailer are new right now, so how things hold up in the weather will be a followup addendum to my review. The holes and the edges of the backing plate are very clean and smooth. I reduced my rating by one star for the plate having a poorly finished side.

We are using this on a dock on our lake. We use it to post the numbers of our verification that we are allowed to have a dock. This product is far better than any of the numbers that we have been able to find. it is the second time I have purchased this product.
