Makita does it again! I own other Makita circular saws up to 16" and they're all great, this one is no exception. I had a steel project I was working on and needed to make some straight cuts through 1/2" and 3/4" steel. I think the saw is rated for 1/4" but this thing cuts 1/2" steel with ease and 3/4" just a bit slower than that, just go slow and the saw will "tell" you if you're going too fast by bogging down. I made quite a few cuts before the blade started to get dull. When the blade does start to get dull, the saw starts to wander off the intended cut line and it starts to spit a few sparks. By the end of my project, the blade was trash, but for the small cost of a new blade, I'm OK with it. I'm sure I would have paid way more to hire a shop to make the cuts for me. The worst thing about using this saw is that you cannot see the cut line at all because of the chip collector so you have to measure the blade offset from the edge of the table and clamp a straight edge to the work, but that in turn gives a nice straight cut, so not a bad trade-off. When the blade is new, the cuts are nice and straight and not ragged at all. If you have to make many cuts for your intended project, or are going to push the limits of steel thickness as I did, I would recommend ordering a second blade when you place your order of the saw, you will need it!

This comes with a 36T blade, which according to the book is for .12" minimum plate thickness. A 48T blade would've been a more versatile choice, IMO. Cutting steel with a blade is loud- wear hearing protection and a face shield. Makes beautiful cuts, just take your time in thicker plate.

I've used this saw for about 1 1/2 years. I've cut lots of #4 and #5 rebar with it. It's very fast compared to using a reciprocating saw. And, unlike an abrasive chop saw, it does not make a dust cloud. The blade guard makes it tough to see where it's cutting, otherwise I'd give it 5 stars.

It's a great saw for structural metal studs. It's almost like cutting wood studs with a regular saw. The jobsite I work on requires a fire watch when ever you use any tool that creates sparks, however this saw does a good enough job of capturing the steel filings that they don't require me to waste a man's time just standing there watching sparks fly like you would with a chop saw. It's nice that you don't have to feed the material to the saw like a chop saw, you can just put you studs on a set of horses and use it like a regular power saw. I would definitely recommend ear protection, because cutting heavy 16 gauge studs is extremely loud. Eye protection is a given, the saw even comes with goggles. The only CON I have is that when you are purchasing the saw they don't go into any detail about what you can cut and what blade you need for your particular application. It was just a fluke that I purchased an extra 48 tooth blade, and that is exactly the blade I needed for cutting 16 gauge metal studs. They don't even tell you if the saw comes with a blade, let alone how many teeth it has. The saw comes with a 36 tooth blade, but it is not suited for 16 gauge stud material. the advertising should show you a blade chart like the one that came with my extra blade.

I've used this to cut 1/4 and 3/8" plate and it works great. Doesn't leave any dross like plasma or a torch so there is no cleanup after cutting. Leaves a nice clean cut, its comfortable feeling and well made.

I used this now several times on aluminum and steel. Cuts like a skill saw through plywood. A real time saver and no sparks or fine dust!

Bought a 48 tooth Diablo blade from HD and cut up a 4'x6' sheet of ~18ga steel. It cut as easily as a regular circular through wood. Most of the chips were captured in the saw which really helped with cleanup. Very pleased with this saw.
