Love these lidsI used to have to strain the kefir with another strainer and it was a mess to not only clean the strainer but get the kefir to go into the jar below under the strainer. These lids allow me to screw right onto the jar and strain kefir right into another jar without the messAlso comes with a lid to protect the strainer while in the fridgeGreat idea and solved my kefir straining mess

If you like your milk kefir to ferment for longer and it gets very thick, the lid holes are too small to strain the kefir from the kefir grains.

Super useful and easy to clean. They are perfect fit to jars and very sturdy. Maybe a better locking system is needed for the next design.

I think this would be great for water kefir, which is of a thinner consistency, being just sugar water, and with smaller grains that don't clump together or create curds. Unfortunately, I've been trying to use it for a couple of days with my milk kefir, and it's frustrating enough I'm not sure I'll keep it. Milk is thicker than water, and thicker still once fermented. The grains themselves are somewhat big, they tend to clump together, and the milk forms a certain amount of curds when culturing. This is an ingenious setup, enabling you to twist the lid slightly open while the ferment is active, then closed for storing or shaking (my attempt to break things up to enable better straining) and is entirely removable for straining and pouring. But that's where the difficulty comes in--straining and pouring. Cultured milk kefir does not easily flow through these very small holes, especially as they are instantly blocked by the grains and curds that surround the grains. I tried closing the unit and shaking hard to break it all up, but I still find I need to pour a bit out, pull back and shake it more or rap it against the counter to dislodge everything blocking the filter, then pour/shake some more out, etc. I need to do this a whole bunch of times even when I only have a cup or two of milk, and my kefir is not over-fermented. This really needs bigger holes.

clever design with a perforated pouring lid, and then a second lid which can either be sealed, to allow agitation, or left open slightly to allow fermentation gases to escape. Works well.

I happened to see these lids while looking for water kefir grains. I like the idea of the 'cap' being used to keep out microbes while letting the kefir breath. The holes are the perfect size- large enough to allow for quick pouring but small enough that the grains do not escape.

Very handy and useful in making Kefir. Fits standard Mason jar securly and with rubber seal inside, there are no leaks or spills. The lid opens to either remove completely (when pouring) or when making kefir - giving the required air without allowing dust or any contaminant into the jar. Pouring from the jar is very easy, by removing the opaque cap - and it strains at the same time. Very easy to clean Highly recommend
