Some other reviewers have noted the poor weld quality and a few had to take this to a professional welder. I couldn’t find a hyperextension/roman chair of this type and high quality for under $300 elsewhere and because I can weld myself, I decided to go ahead and give it a try.On the one I received that one spot that seemed to break for a few others had been welded all the way around. I don’t know if that quality issue has been addressed or if I was just lucky and got one of the ones that came out ok. But mine was welded fine there. I’m including a picture of mine, it’s the chrome weld.I’ll also say this, the quality of the welds over all was fairly poor. I know how to weld and these do not look like welds that penetrated all the way through the metal. And, on other painted parts the joints are welded on only two sides. I think that’s pretty lame not to just go ahead and weld all the way around. I’m including some pictures of that as well. That being said, while these are not high quality welds, I do actually think they are good enough. This machine only holds your body weight plus a little more, so it probably doesn’t have to be as strong as some other equipment. And I suspect these welds are still more than adequate. While I’m sure this isn’t as high quality as a $300 roman chair, I do think it represents a very good value and will get the job done. Mine feels very stable and I’m a 200lb guy holding a 35 lb plate when I use this. If you decide to buy one, you should check the weld on the chrome piece and make sure it goes all the way around. And return it if it doesn’t.

Doesn’t sit as high as we’d like, you cannot use kettlebells with it for that reason. Went together easily enough, wobbles a bit which makes you feel unsteady until you get going. Definitely not a commercial gym piece.

I took it to welding shop and had it redone. Confident it wont break now. Ergonomics kind of strange. Not for short people.

The Merax Roman Chair is adequate for doing forward leans to strengthen lower back muscles. It assembled easily. Things which would make it a great machine: An inch more space between the pads. The tops of the pads should be a softer foam so it doesn't dig into your legs. The adjustment settings which determine the height of the pads could provide more settings, to better adjust to different size people.
