I’ve used these for years. I like that the cord comes out of the top, not the bottom, so the de-icer floats level in the tank and the heating elements stay submerged.

Thank god I was home when this happened and caught it with in an hour. But this deicer entirely caught fire and burned part of my fence, the fire caught onto my 250 gallon tank, melted my hose, melted my autofill float along with itself. It was in a complete blaze when I found it. So unless you want to be out of $500 in livestock items like I am now, DO NOT BUY. They won’t even refund my money, they only will offer a “$16 discount†whatever that means.

I was looking to put it in my water tank to keep it from freezing my tank hole is 7 inches and the tank heater is 8 1/4 inches, so I haven't tried it or plugged it in, but I am thinking that I will be able to use it in the new tank next year, also note that if you are using this in a plastic tank you will need the heater guard for this unit or make one yourself with bailing wire

Been outside in the trough for a couple weeks now in single digit weather. Water hasn't froze over as of yet so I'd say it works great!
