About this item

  • Hardened stainless steel construction with satin chrome finish, for protection of caliper
  • Measures outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), step, and depth (when depth bar is included)
  • Raised sliding surfaces to help prevent defacement and wear of scale graduations
  • Modest, 14-degree face angle on vernier scale, for improving visibility and reducing the possibility of parallax errors
  • Meets Federal Accuracy Specifications GGG-C-111B

The Mitutoyo 530 series vernier caliper has two sets of jaws for measurement in metric units of outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), step, and depth (when depth bar is included), for applications where the highest accuracy is required, especially in scientific research and in industries where parts must fit exactly.

The caliper has a dual vernier scale, with both the upper and lower scales measuring in metric units. A 14-degree vernier face angle improves visibility and helps prevent parallax error in measurement reading. The caliper’s two sets of jaws provide the capability to make OD and ID measurements, as well as step measurements, where the butt end of the fixed jaw measures one end of a work piece before its upper/lower or inner/outer steps are measured. When included, a depth measuring blade with rounded edges provides the ability to make depth measurements. The scales are raised to slide easily and protect the graduation markings. A thumbwheel permits fast and easy measuring. A clamping screw on the upper scale rotates to control scale movement and locks to hold the sliding jaw’s position. The caliper is made of hardened, corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a satin chrome finish that helps reduce glare. The caliper meets Federal Accuracy Specifications GGG-C-111B.

Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, and machining. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The digital caliper takes a differential by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD that displays a single value in English and/or metric units.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

Precise and reliable for basic use at a basic cost. I don't need digital readout to fractions of a millimeter.

These calipers, at least the 104, have both inch and metric increments. Makes the dumb American in me happy that I don't need to convert measurements each time lolExtremely well crafted. The plastic wrap and coverings made sure that the tool didn't get damaged in transit. Not needing batteries or re-calibration of a analog system make it so much easier to use. This size fits my needs perfectly, as a micrometer is too limited due to it's small size, and a full length 12" caliper is just too big and not necessary - 6 or 8 inches is perfect.Made in Japan, and it shows.

This is my first caliper, so can’t compare with any other brands but I don’t need to. It’s exactly what I’ve expected knowing where it’s made. It’s a piece of precision art!

I use to measure bike components ... tire width, seatpost diameter etc. Very easy to read and way more accurate that I need but I seem to use it more and more these days. Very well made as other will attest. I watched a few youtube videos on how to read the more precise measurements. Great tool!

Heavy construction but , of course, that is what I would expect from Mitutoyo. They always have quality measuring instruments.

extremely nice calipers, but tbh probably should have gotten the digital ones. Also I kinda want a precision straight edge to put it against because I suspect mine are slightly curved. But overall an amazing tool and even more versatile than I thought.Just like everyone says I ended up measuring every random thing in the house, it just happens that way.Honestly they were on sale a and I've been looking at them for like a year so I just bought them for no real reason (no need for them) and I do not regret it all, these things are cool as heck!
