My filter had been used for less than 10 days but on the third day of a 6 day trip it started making noises like a bear and a moose were mating (not to mention making me break a sweat from the increased resistance). I used the kit to change the o-rings and lube the various parts, and now it's smooth as butter. Easy to follow instructions, only one of the o-rings took a little effort to remove. From start to finish it took about 10 minutes.

Product description listed “clean side cover†as being included, but my kit did not include this item. It turns out this was/is a typo. What IS included is a replacement for the rubber pad that sits in a pocket in the cover that seals up against the clean side nozzle when the cover is attached to the underside of the filter body. It is depicted in the product photo as a black cylindrical item just above the lubricant tube cap. The instructions for the kit lable this as the Cleanside Cover Seal.

I’ve skimped on annual maintenance for my MSR dragonflies over the years because they just keep on working. No harm no foul. I think it’s a little different when you’re relying on a device to give you safe drinking water and that comes down to the properly functioning seals and back check valve.This kit gives you all you need to replace your seals and make sure everything is well lubed up so it stays sealed as well as moves smoothly.The process is simple, but takes a little time to go through and do it right. A good idea is to sanitize the unit first. Unfortunately the tablets to do this aren’t included in the maintenance kit. Keep you hands clean so you don’t contaminate the purifier or make yourself sick if you filtered anything was harmful.Take care of your equipment, stay safe out there and enjoy the outdoors!

What I liked about this kit is that the user manual is included (somehow I had lost my original manual). The manual shows how everything goes together and I was able to fix my filter, where one of the one-way valves had become dislodged after I did one or two strokes with a clogged intake valve.
