I am so impressed with this little extractor/filter! From the moment I began opening this I found one smile inspiring experience after the other. This might sound a bit dramatic, but so often lately ordered items fall just a little bit short (in one way or another) of hopes and expectations.I was a bit nervous about ordering this as there are extractors at much lower and much higher price points. Because it is orange and white, I expected it to be plastic. I hoped it would be sturdy plastic. I opened this in front of my partner who said his soldering extractor cost him about $300. As I pulled this out of the box I made a little gasp and said "Oh, wow!" I was actually that impressed by the quality and feel of the unit. The body is strong, rigid, heavy, powder coated metal to which magnets will stick. I cannot find note anywhere on the listing of the materials used in making this machine. Mine is an all metal body, metal clips on the sides, rubberized plastic feet (that is to say they are softer plastic, not rubber). The fan, bendy hose, and couplers are plastic. The cord is removeable which is very convenient if you need to feed it through a hole in your desk. There is foam weather stripping around the inside of the lid. The filter is excellent quality. It is quiet. The suction is powerful. It makes a whooshing sound that isn't unpleasant and can still be heard around. The little knob has a dimple on the face which should align with the markings on the body to indicate the level of on-ness of the fan. Mine is misaligned. It affects nothing, but it is the one thing that I wouldn't call perfect so far.In addition to not seeing mention of the materials used to construct this unit, I see no indication on the actual product of where it is actually made. There is a small imprint on the barcode sticker that says 'Made in China' for anyone who would like to know.

Decent unit, seems expensive for what you get, nice airflow. Heavy metal construction. Seller is responsive and did resolve the issue to my 100% satisfaction, but unit that I was sent was used.

We have a vent hood but this is a helpful addition because during metal extractions there can be and often are excessive fumes for a several moment burst. This unit is fairly easy to move around our work areas to use on the fly. It’s also easy to get out of the way & store when we don’t need it cluttering up the bench area. It’s sturdy and the flow rate can be adjusted — while at the same time it’s not too noisy at the maximum level.Anything to help us not breathe in unhealthy fumes is a gold star in my book. This works better than expected, and I’d order it again.

I've been putting off reviewing this because I just don't know… on the one hand this does seem to have really good build quality. It's sleek, and quiet, and doesn't take up hardly any room next to my laser engraver. On the other hand, this seems very expensive given its design (and disposability???)The design concerns I have are just that this doesn't quite seem up to actually filtering fumes from a laser engraver. For one, the inlet tube is right up against the filters and so doesn't really seem to use their whole surface area — with the prefilter especially literally just a small spot in the middle is all that gets used. Then next comes the carbon filter which is pretty much see-through and doesn't really catch much fumes at all. The HEPA filter seems fine as far as that goes (and is maybe/hopefully collecting the more dangerous molecules even if the smoke smell itself goes right through) but overall I don't think I'd trust this for anything but sorta-kinda safe-ish materials to begin with. The actual laser fume extractorsWhat makes me say "disposability" isn't the unit itself. Again, very nice build quality. Fan runs really smooth and everything seems like it could last decades. Except of course, the filters are consumables. And therein lies the big issue. Although ideally it would just use the normal size used for soldering hoods, at least I can get (better!) carbon filters and cut them to size myself, and the pre-filter should be pretty easy to improvise as well. But the HEPA filter is something like ~5.75" (~14.5 cm?) in each dimension and I can't find anything to match online. The seller themselves stock 6x6 and 10x10 and 10x12 filters for their other machines but nothing for this one. So when this filter gets used up — then what??

Easy to assembly, pretty sturdy little unit.I don't do a ton of soldering, but when I do, its always in an enclosed basement without a ton of circulation. This definitely helped get the smell and the smoke out of the air and made me feel a lot better. The hose holds its shape pretty well and is easy to configure to get close to the work piece without getting in the way.Not many moving parts and i get the sense with my use the filter will last for a long time.

I’ve got a laser engraver set up in a custom enclosure for safety and better airflow control. At first, I used a basic fan filter at the top of the box, but it didn’t have enough pull to handle the smoke effectively, especially during longer engraving sessions. Once I installed this fume extractor, the difference was night and day. It pulls air much better, clearing the smoke quickly and keeping my work area manageable. The setup process was simple, and the overall build feels sturdy enough to last. This extractor fits the bill perfectly for what I needed, and it’s already made things a lot easier during my engraving projects. If you’re dealing with a similar setup or handling soldering tasks, this could be a solid addition to your workstation.

this is nice although it is a bit broad for the filter... does it even use all of the filter.it does not seem to get the hydrocarbons out of the air and is a bit awkward to place close enough to my soldering iron. But the reason this is a wast of money is that one the hepa filter is done the unit will not function and it seem there are no sources for the replacement filters
