I bought this Natural Gas Detector and Combustible Gas Alarm recently. It gives me peace of mind because it protects my home from gas leaks. The installation was easy. I plugged it into an outlet near my kitchen. It was ready to use right away. There was no complicated setup or extra wiring. The device started to monitor gas right after I plugged it in. The indicator lights show clear status updates. This detector is very sensitive to methane, propane, and ethane. I did a small test near my gas stove. The alarm quickly detected a little gas presence. This confirmed that it works well. It does not give false alarms, which is good compared to other models I try. The 85dB alarm is loud. Confirmed this works as intended by directing natural gas from the stove towards the detector (about 1.5 feet away) and within seconds, the alarm went off. This detector takes a while to initialize but once finished it’ll draw a steady 1.7W. Overall the quality is plasticky but it’s not like you’ll be moving this around or exposing it to harsh handling. It is slightly bulky so that using the top outlet with a grounded cable might be difficult (check pic).Aside from that, it gives me peace of mind in case I left the stove on and the flame extinguishes or if it develops a leak.

Better safe than sorry! This is a plug-in detector for combustible gases such as methane, propane, and ethane, the largest components of natural gas. If you have a leak, this detector is intended to detect the leak and sound a high decibel level alarm. Note that this is not a carbon monoxide detector which could come from stoves, hot water heaters, fireplaces and other gas or wood-burning appliances.The unit simply plugs into the wall. Mine is in the kitchen. When first plugged in, the red light blinks on and off and the digital display is of a high number than gradually decreases to zero during the warm-up period. Just under 5" tall. When plugged into the bottom receptacle of a duplex electrical outlet, the unit was such that there was not enough room to plug a grounded plug in the top of the outlet -- but a two prong plug without a ground could fit in the top outlet.This is a great device to have at home and to give as a gift to others -- just in case!

For those with gas appliances, be it a water heater, stove, or really anything else, this is great peace of mind. It will display the level it detects so you can spot even a minute problem that hasn't reached the point of triggering an alarm. I no longer need to worry whether my aging gas pipes are leaking, this will tell me. It's as simple to use as things get. Plug it in, wait 3 minutes.I particularly appreciate that it was designed such that you can still use the other plug in the outlet.

Unfortunately, Amazon is shipping many boxed items in padded envelopes. They often get crushed in shipping. This is not a vendor problem, this is an Amazon shipping issue.The detector itself is a nice basic device with some added features. And it is UL listed which is a requirement for use in my house. I would not recommend any life safety device that has not been labelled by UL for use in the USA.In addition to the basic alarm function, it also has a lighted alert that is the whole top of the unit that you see colored red. It lights up. The other LEDs indicator none, low, or high and there is a numeric indicator as well. There is one problem with the numeric display in that is is recessed in the middle of the housing. You can't read the umbers unless you bend down to the same level as the outlet to read it.I did not test this one to see if it reacts to smoke or extinguished burnt paper, but I will get to that at a later date. The instructions are basic but acceptable. The label on the box claims a 10 year life span, so I wrote the expiration date right on the back of the unit so I would not forget once the box is gone.
