I blew a couple of these while building a flyback driver, which was my fault, so I definitely recommend keeping it cool the best you can, but it works.

Worked well as a replacement part in a linear power supply. TO-3 package seemed much more substantial than the part replaced.

The two I randomly grabbed from the bag tested good and the one I used is working good in my pinball machine. However, I only gave 3 stars for the following reasons.1. Poorly packaged. All 12 stuck into a foam square, legs bent, and everything tightly jammed into a very tiny anti-static bag.2. Where the two legs enter the case, there is a little hump of epoxy or plastic at the base of each leg. This hump prevents it from sitting flat on the PCB without rocking. If you tighten the screws, you will bend the PCB. To fix, I had to chamfer the top of the holes on the PCB just enough so that the little humps at the base of the leads had enough clearance to fully seat the transistor flat against the board. Keep in mind that if your PCB has traces on the top then making a chamfer could break the electrical connection through the hole. Mine did not. The original Motorola transistor did not have this problem.The original transistor lasted 40+ years, so I will update this review if this component fails.
