This isn't the perfect product, but don't let this stop you from choosing this specific non-contact voltage detector.Like all such products (and there are MANY) it suffers from the same problems: at times too sensitive and at other times not sensitive enough. The reason is simple enough: these voltage detectors are based on the assumption that the person holding the detector in his hands is at ground potential (or close to it) and that doesn't always happen to be the case.Where this specific product stands out is that the sensitivity can be adjusted in 9 steps. This allows you to reduce the sensitivity in situations where there is so much energy in the area that the detector alerts even near non-conducting materials or at no object at all in mid-air. The multiple detection levels help to distinguish between weaker (possibly false positive) signals and stronger detection (likely to be an actual live circuit).I personally don't trust these voltage detectors to keep me safe when working on electrical circuit. The reason I bought this detector was for troubleshooting light strings and with its adjustable sensitivity and 3 level strength indication it does work reasonably well for that purpose (much, much better then voltage detectors that are not adjustable and only have a single alert level). I would not recommend it as a safety tool for a job site as it does appear fragile (lightweight plastic). Thrown into a bag of heavy tools it would probably not last very long.The reason I'm giving it 5 stars is for the sensitivity adjustment and multi-level alerting. I tested those features and they work very well for my intended purpose.

If I were working with circuits all the time, I’d opt for the Klein Tool model. However, this one works great at an equally reasonable price. The unit is made with cheap Chinese materials but bottom line is: it works!

I like that it's easy simple and the configurations are nice. Sometimes just sticking it to something or tapping it sets it off. Not perfect but good and helped me do some wire work I wanted to do. Always nice to test things for being hot or not.

Works great! Picks up low voltage or higher voltage. Beep is easy to hear and beeps faster when on a wire or screw.

I really like this tester. I perform a lot of prototype electronics design, and repairs to antique radio electronics - and other difficult to troubleshoot items, this is more than a diagnostics tool for me. It does what the signal injectors, oscilloscope, or DMM's that I own will not. most often you have a go / no go, test scenario, this tool allows one to follow a circuit and find where it has current/voltage and when it has an "open" - this is a must have for an AC diagnostics toolkit... Thank you.

Works great. First tried the name brand item on Amazon, but it didn't work well at all. So proceeded with this one. Worked like a champ in troubleshooting Christmas lights on the tree.

Es funcional, tiene una lampara para iluminar en lugares obscuros y puedes cambiar la intensidad del voltaje a medir aunque no especifica muy bien las diferencias entre sus nueve niveles
