But also wont take off 10 balljoint before breaking. But for the price and not paying someone to do it it's worth it. I also took a new england one off on a car over 10 year old crosstrek with over 100k miles.

This tool popped out the stubborn (understated) BJs in minutes! I spent about 2hrs trying to hammer them out with prybars and got maybe 1/4" of movement... I think the negative reviews are from people not using the tool properly. You may need to use some sort of additional coupling above the tool if the tool travel is about 1/2" or less. DO NOT keep cranking at it if the stoppers/wings are already at the very bottom. This is not rocket science, folks. It's a solid built tool and should last many BJ replacements. I didn't use an impact and suggest not to, since the threads are fairly fine and may strip out. A good ratcheting breaker bar or a large 1/2" ratchet will be plenty. Keep the threads lubed and you should be good to go. This thing is a lifesaver when it comes to rusty/crusty/corroded ball joints.

The pin sheared off on the first use. Submitted a claim through the company and they were plenty happy to send a replacement and I thought all was good. Found a package outside my garage, opened it, and found an OMT valve spring compressor despite explicitly giving them the part number and specifying Subaru ball joint tool. Not even going to attempt to go through it again.

I just work on my personal vehicles/equipment and had never done ball joints on a Subaru before. Perhaps I should have looked it up beforehand, but I had never really considered that the ball joint would be pressed into a blind hole. Typical presses won't work, and after about two hours of whacking and prying I only got 10% of the ball joint out. After looking to YouTube in frustration, I saw this type of puller an bought this model from OMT. Game changer. This tool quickly and smoothly pulled the joint out using a breaker bar then ratchet, and the tool still looks as good as new. Even if I never use it again it was well worth it. I had previously purchased an OMT branded gear/bearing puller set and was similarly impressed. My experience with their products suggests they are excellent for occasional use in the home or farm shop. They are affordable, but still decent enough to actually do what they are supposed to without breaking on the first use. Just don't try using an impact on pullers with fine threads or they'll strip out in a heartbeat. If you want to get by with cheap tools like this, you have to go smooth and slow.

It’s perfect for the job it’s intended for… but the “wings†that provide the torque bent fairly easily. It did get the ball joint out enough for me to pop it out with a bar and hammer. Change the design of the wing piece and your set. If you diy or work on Subarus you definitely want this tool. Even if you only have to use it once, it’s worth it

Used it on my 2013 sti to remove the drivers side ball joint that was stuck. Worked great and fast. Took me all of 3 minutes. Would 100% buy again.

The idea behind this product is really smart. You connect a coupler to the ball joint and and tighten down a nut at the bottom of the tool. As you tighten, it pulls the ball joint right out. However I had several problems using this tool. First of all, after banging on the control arm to free it from the ball joint, the ball joint threads were not perfect. This tool requires you to thread onto the ball joint. I had to use vice grips and a adjustable pliers to really tighten the coupler nut into place. It took no less than 12 attempts to finally get it to where the tool would pull on the ball joint correctly. Second problem is that there was only about 4mm of travel available once I had everything connected. For my 2019 subaru outback, the tool needed to be taller. This is why so many reviewers say the pins bent on them, they tightened the tool beyond the limit of travel because it is not designed to travel far enough. I saw another person post that they had a metal pipe around the same size and used that to extend the height of the tool. All I could find around my garage was a PVC coupler. I ended up using that to extend it about 1" in length. This allowed me to finally extract the ball joint. Over all I spent multiple hours messing with this thing and got very frustrated. If there were just a few design improvements, it would probably work great. I hope to never use this again and may throw it in the trash at this point, now that I finished the job.

Use common sense and don't fully extend the tool and bend the side bar. Use air hammer to knock it the rest of the way out.

Works like a charm and very solid. Did 4 rusty ball joints so far and no sign of wear. Make sure you grease up the threads and don't use an impact if you can help it

First one came and was defective but Amazon returns was great. Second one was good and worked well on both my front ball joints.

This tool is not built well enough to be used for more than one job. After pulling the driver side joint the tool need to be unbent to attempt the second joint. The second joint came out but the puller tool was bent beyond repair. The tool won’t survive the job but it does work.
