Love this thing. Someone lent me theirs (different brand) when I had to prepare a funeral lunch, and when we came back from the service, the spiral ham I'd put into the roaster a few hours prior was just amazing. So I asked for the 22-qt Oster for Christmas. The moist, juicy results! The ease of cleaning! My first attempt was a 5-lb chicken. Pat dry. Salt. Smear with rotisserie rub (melted butter, salt, paprika, and black pepper). I put it into the preheated 450-F oven, then let it cook at 325 for 80 minutes. Oh my, what a wonderful roast that made.- The roaster is large, but it's lightweight.- The liner is easy to clean. Dish detergent and a plastic scrubby.- The stainless steel shell is handsome, looks great on the counter.- It comes with a rack with two folding handles so that lifting the roast from the cooking container is easy--but you still need hand protection.- It has two very tiny steam vents on the lid to keep your roast from getting steamed (like in a slow cooker); the chicken I made actually had crispy skin.- Ideal for cooking your holiday main dish; leaves your built-in oven available for the many side dishes.- The outside surface becomes a little warm while the roast is cooking. Keep it far from small children.I plan to stuff a turkey long before Thanksgiving just because this thing is so much fun to use. Plan to use it for steamed tamales at Christmas too.

Bought this roaster for our Thanksgiving turkey to free up oven space for other dishes. It worked like a charm and everyone commented that it was the best turkey ever! The self-basting really helps seal in flavor. We've also used it for roasting a prime rib and making lamb osso bucco. To make clean-up easier, line the pan with heavy duty aluminum foil or use an oven bag (being careful not to let the plastic of the bag touch the side of the oven so it doesn't melt to the sides). Here is the turkey recipe we used:1. After thawing the bird, remove neck and giblets (reserve for gravy), then rinse inside and out and pat dry the bird.2. Brine, season and/or stuff the bird as desired. We skipped the brine and used a cajun herb butter mix to inject into the meat and season the bird (melted butter, salt and pepper, cajun seasoning, lemon zest and finely chopped thyme, rosemary and sage). We also stuffed the bird with a mix of apples, onions, celery, carrots, lemon wedges and garlic cloves.3. Pre-heat the roaster to 450F degrees (highest setting). Place the bird breast side up in the rack inside the roaster pan and make sure the bird is not touching the sides of the roaster. Brush with olive oil and seasoning then roast at high heat for 30 minutes to sear and brown the outside.4. Turn the heat down to 325F and roast for several hours (as specified by weight). The roaster will self-baste the bird and seal in flavor and moisture as long as you do not open it! Do not lift the lid except to check the temperature in the last hour or 30 minutes.5. Carefully remove the bird from the roaster when fully cooked and let it rest for 30 minutes before carving. This roaster is a great value and will make delicious roasts!

I ordered this roaster to do my 24 pound Christmas turkey (yes, I was very slow in reviewing this item!) and it worked beautifully! It was so much easier than doing it in the oven as I have done for as long as I have been roasting turkeys, which is a very long time! I was a bit concerned when ordering this roaster that my huge turkey may not fit, but it fit great, with room to spare!I followed the directions in the book that came with the roaster, and my turkey came out with the skin slightly brown and so very juicy!! The Self Basting lid really does work! I didn't have to worry about opening my hot oven and risk burning myself and letting all of the heat, as I did in the past! It was pretty much like the turkey roasted itself! And, I was able to make my gravy right in the pan and not take up space on my already overcrowded stove top!I was able to purchase mine from "Warehouse Deals" for half the price of what this usually sells for. What a bargain! And it was brand new, although the description said it was "Used, good condition"! If anyone ever used it, it was put back in the original packaging, along with the original plastic film covering! I am sure this was brand new! This is why I trust Amazon's Warehouse deals and always check to see if there is one before purchasing anything on Amazon! What is also neat is that the roaster can be used to cook other foods too so you will surely get your money's worth from it! I highly recommend it, for turkeys, chickens or any other type of food! I think you will be as pleased as I am!

I made a batch of chili, and it turned out very flavorful. It was really easy and convenient to cook in this roaster oven. The insert was not easy to clean, though. It required a lot of soaking and still a lot of scrubbing.Next, I made a 15 pound turkey. The turkey cooked in approximately half the time it would have taken in a regular oven. The turkey was perfect - moist, very tasty, browned to perfection. Best turkey I have cooked in years! The insert was much easier to clean. The price is a bit high, but this was a present to myself so I splurged.
