How to Plant Bare Root Strawberry Plants

Cold hardy strawberry plants and heat tolerant strawberry plants

Step 1: Check Outdoor Temperatures

If your outdoor temperatures are above 85°F or below 32°F, start your strawberries indoors for the first two weeks. Gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions over the course of a week before planting them outside.

Strawberry plant soil for compact soil and loose soil

Step 2: Proper Soil

Well-draining soil is extremely important! We recommend mixing at least 30% sand into a high-quality base soil.

Starting strawberry plants by planting them indoors is recommended for certain temperatures

Step 3: Starting Indoors (if needed)

In a cup or pot, plant your strawberry so that the soil reaches the base of the crown. The crown begins where the roots meet the upper portion of the plant. Burying the crown can significantly increase the risk of suffocating the plant. Firmly press the soil down around the edges of the cup or pot to encourage water runoff, and water gently. Place the pot in a sunny window and water every 3-4 days, or whenever the top 1/2 inch of soil feels dry.

How to Plant Strawberries Outdoors

Step 4: Planting Outdoors

Plant your strawberries in raised rows or mounds. As explained in Step 3, be careful not to bury the crown. Generally, strawberries should be planted 12–18 inches apart, with rows spaced 3–4 feet apart.

Ordered 25 and received 27!Planted on Sunday after soaking in water for a couple hours. Some had mold started (my mistake) but don’t matter! They are extremely hardly and mold don’t do any harm. Took photo on Tuesday and all looked healthy and growing rapidly. Require special talent to kill the plant. Follow instructions in details and all plants should thrive!Update: all my first order thrived and were taken by my family and colleagues when they were invited to my house for holiday. I ordered the second batch and they are growing quite well. So far, out of 54 roots received, none had any issues and have been doing well. 100% successful. I have never grown strawberries before, nor fruits and vegetables before.Roots are packed together but as others mentioned, they can be separated easily. My sisters ordered from others but came with tangled roots having difficulty separating. Some were damaged and died after a week or so. But from this nursery, you do not have to worried about that!

Definitely recommend buying these plants! First I received shipment six days prior to my expected shipment date. I ordered 5 plants and got 7 so that was a bargain. I followed their instructions on how to plant and so far 6 out of the 7 are doing well. I really don't know if the 7th one has an issue, but I am still doing what I can to keep it alive. Hey I ordered 5 got 7 and 6 are doing well so I can't complain. Let me say I can't believe that in a out 3 days they sprouted and in a week lush green leaves appeared and in less than a month flowering took place and I think I am seeing my first strawberry! So excited and I was glad I chose this site they are very good plants once you follow the instructions you will have success. I live in the tropics and wondered if strawberries would do well but so far so good will purchase more!

Fast shipment, faster than promised! Quick arrival, good packaging. Nice healthy plants, strong root system with budding green centers. No fungal growth etc ( I was concerned reading other reviews). All looks clean and healthy. The only thing I would add is that it would be nice if it were a plastic stick with the proper name of the strawberry plants like professional nurseries often have for sold plants.

I’m very happy to say, I received all my orders of bare roots from this seller, and all look really, healthy and they send a extra, so you are safe, from any issues arising from the trip. UPDATE: 9/5/24 All died out… I don’t know why, I grow indoors with Aero Garden, but sadly these didn’t make it, long term. I just placed an order for more, they are arriving 9/12-9/15 hopefully 🤞 they will do better.
