So first, those saying the fids don't fit inside the marlin spike tube are just doing it wrong. You have to hold all three fids together ad a unit and drop them in at the same time. Perfect fit. If you try to send them home one at a time, the first one drops to the hollow interior point of the spike, centers itself, and blocks the other two from fully fitting into the tube.Both the point and the butt cap unscrew so the spike is really made up of three pieces. I may try to find a couple of o-rings to help waterproof it so I can carry matches or some tinder inside when not needing the fids. This will actually be part of my hammock hang, as a marlin spike makes things super adjustable when attaching the hammock to the tree.I haven't used the fids yet, but the smallest seems to be about 2mm in diameter, and the largest might work with 550 Paracord. Something like that, anyway. Each has a short bit of inside/female threading at the back end to aid in keeping your cordage securely fastened to it. Just insert and twist, and you can "fid-dle" all day!Great piece of gear for the money.

This is more of just a quality control issue as the outer diameters likely vary. Both my boyfriend and I have tried various orientations both putting them all in together from the top or bottom end to trying to fit them in 1 or 2 at a time. They only just barely don't fit to the point that they go in together but won't slide in deep enough to close it. A fraction of a mm could make all of the difference. I find it really funny that they are shipped separated. Not a big deal to us as I will be using the fids and spike for separate projects, but it would have been nice for the spike to act as a storage container to at least keep them together nicely. Here is a photo of the two large fids wedged where the small one fell in fine.

Big blue truck stopped, thirty minutes later I was lacing up a baseball glove. Very pleased with the fid, it unscrews for storage from both ends. All three lacing needles fit easily inside. FWIW fids are usually wood or bone and this is machined aluminum, but it's not as 'spiky' as a marlinspike, so I'll let this slide. Lacing needles, the two larger work with regular paracord. The smaller needle is good for the smaller, micro paracord and also #36 tarred bank line. Come also with a cute drawstring bag. May continue using it, not sure. All in all, v. pleased with the price and utility. I may buy another set.

The spike I got appears to have a VERY small imperfection on the inside of the center piece. I can see it if I hold it up to a bright back light and tilt slightly to see a small ridge form in a single circular spot inside. It's maybe 0.25mm tall (not much smaller than my 3D printer's nozzle), therefore taking up 0.5mm, and it prevents me from putting all 3 fids inside despite trying to put them in at the same time (not 1 at a time). See pics.I don't think this matters though as the smallest fid can fit between the other 2 when they're stuck. The outer diameters of the other 2 fids gets caught on this imperfection and everything lines up such that they take up the most amount of space possible. Aka, the combined outer diameters of the 2 fids match the inner diameter of the spike and the imperfection blocks them.The included pouch more than makes up for this (for me) as I'm also using it to store some other small things. Putting something else inside the spike is easily viable.

Admittedly, I had no idea the smaller needles are called fids until I read others’ reviews.Mine don’t fit. Not even if I attempt to load them all at once like some reviewers suggested.

Sturdy needles in various sizes. Have mostly used the middle size for paracord stitching. Threads great!

It is as it's explained but a little to big around to do what I needed it for. The worse was the delivery company used. Was told 3 times it was out for delivery but couldn't be delivered because no one was home. I was home all 3 times at the times stated and in fact received an item from another delivery company during one of those times
