The ends are not the same as the ends on the pushrods. They are not hemispheres. They are more of a flatter elliptical shape. What this means is they do not sit in the rockers and lifters the same depth. This is supposed to be a 6.800 to 7.800 checker. If you bottom out the checker it should be the same length as a 6.800 long pushrod. The threads are .050 linear distance per turn, so you mark a line on the checker when it is bottomed out, and then count the turns out to get to your target length. I did the above and extended it 12 turns to "7.400" and put in. I ran the rocker bolt down to zero lash, and then tightened the rocker until it bottomed out (LS fixed rocker geometry) and counted the turns to calculate how much it preloaded the lifter. Then I repeated this with the actual 7.400 pushrod. The two were definitely different. I then had to tweak the length of of the checker in .025 (half turn) increments until I got to the same preload as the actual pushrod so I knew where I was at. It was a pain.

When you buy this tool you have to be careful because it gives a longer measurement of about .025.....The problem is the ends of this checker are not the same as a regular pushrod. The ends seem to be more flat compared to a regular push rod, and when installed as your making your measurements.. the tool does not sit all the way into the top of the lifter and also does not sit all the way into where it meets the rocker giving you a longer measurement than when using a regular pushrod... it definitely was a pain having to figure this out but finally realized the cheaper version of the real tool was causing problems...fyi

I specifically ordered this one because it said comp cams even used the comp cams part number. Paid extra and waiting longer because I thought if I pay for comp cams one it will be better quality. Nope China crap

The closed length is off by .03" and one turn doesn't change the length by .05". In the photos it's unscrewed 12 turns which should add 0.6" to make the overall length 7.4". As you can see from the caliper readings and the comparison to a 7.4" push rod, it's off by 0.1". That's a large error that would definitely impact the valve train.

The checker at its lowest setting, screwed in all the way tight is 6.844! Checked this twice with a micrometer and caliper. Also does not have indicator lines for measurement and not the comp cams 7702-1.
