The removal tool breaks easily and could work better but the valve itself if quite good, great fit and working as it should.

The shower faucet is more than 30yrs old. This cartridge did not come out easily. I couldn't have repaired this shower without two 3/4" flat washer placed between the faucet and the removal tool. The removal tool is made from soft aluminum and was binding and getting damaged due to a sharp bur on the face of the faucet. Also because of the corrosion, in my situation I needed to buy a fine 3/4" round wire brush and some fine emery cloth. I wrapped the cloth around a 1/2" OD pipe and used both tools to slowly and carefully remove the buildup inside. I also bought the highly recommended silicone grease and applied that inside the faucet and all the O-rings of the new cartridge. The grease made reinstalling the cartridge a breeze, and the faucet works as good as new. Very happy!Update: Because of the corrosion and the sanding, there was debris inside the plumbing. When I turned the shower on everything seemed fine but the next day, the debris clogged the shower head. Please remember, if you are dealing with old fixtures. Remove the spray head before letting the water run and let it run for at least a minute to evacuate the air and debris.

This provided an excellent fit in two Moen shower/bath valves, about 40 and 50 years old. They slid in smoothly, and the removable plastic end-piece made insertion and orientation for Hot vs. Cold easy. The valves operate more easily than the originals ever did, and i leak free. The whole process of replacement, from the time the water supply was shut until the handle was replaced, took about 10 minutes for each (and would have been faster, if I'd observed the orientation of the diagonal O-ring, rather than having to flip the cartridge after installation -- no need to shut supply again).BTW, to remove the old cartridge, after removing the retaining clip, reattach the handle and pull slowly, steadily, with perhaps 15 or 20 pounds force (~70 or 90 N). Do *not* pull so hard as to break the handle.Ah -- the caveat. Though this works perfectly, now, I have no way to know if these cartridges will last as long as the original parts. It depends on the brass alloy and the O-rings, which I have no way to test. That said, I'm unlikely to be able to report on their longevity in 40 years.

Works. I have a rental condo with a Moen shower contol and trim set. After 30 years, water would drip from shower or tub spicit when shower control was pushed in to turn off the water. I replaced original cartridge with this one. I hope this one lasts along time. I did buy and use the cartridge extractor which worked as described. It took less than a minute to pull out the original cartridge (be sure to remove the clip before pulling).

Our 32 year-old Moen tub/shower control started leaking recently. We also have a Moen shower-only control (also 32 YO) that was very stiff. Additionally, we were experiencing a wierd phenomena where the cold water settings of ALL our faucets started very hot and we had to wait to get cold! This was very strange. We tried the washer replacement kit on the tub/shower cartridge and it still leaked - and we still had the "hot water everywhere" problem. So we ordered 2 of these replacement cartridges at a GREAT PRICE! (BTW: If you have one this style cartridge it is probably old and likely stuck. Get a Moen cartridge puller tool; they work GREAT!)The cartridges where delivered in 2 days via Prime. We shut off the water; pulled the old cartridge; inserted the new cartridge with the stem notch (read the instructions) pointing toward the water spigot; turned on the water. It took 10 minutes - maybe!Voila, silky smooth control of the water hot-cold water mix - AND NO "hot water everywhere" problem!! Apparently, the hot water was mixing into the cold water within the cartridge and migating throughout the house - WIERD!This cartridge part is genuine Moen and should last another 30 years!! I am VERY pleased!!

After a couple of months it started to get harder and harder to pull the knob. Otherwise it works well.
