This kit had pretty much all I needed to replace the Moen 1222 cartridge in my Posi-Temp Shower valve......and then some bonuses!! The kit came with the Allen key for removing the handle (so I didn't have to scramble around looking for the correct key). The removal tool worked perfectly removing the leaking cartridge that had been in place, unused, for several years in the guest shower. Loved the tool, it really was needed to pull a very stubborn cartridge out. The new cartridge fit perfectly into the valve body and is working just fine- no leaks, no drips, no dribbles. I stated that it came with bonuses. Besides the Allen key, it also came with a second set of the valve seals for future use (or maybe another cartridge reseal in another bathroom?) -what a deal! The only things I needed were a Phillips screw driver, and some needle nose pliers. The instructions were also good, but I would still advise anyone doing this job to check out some of the videos on the net (Moen has some on their site) for some of the fine points of setting the temp and getting a closeup view of the steps involved in this repair. ENJOY!

This cartridge works as it should. Lubricant made it insert smoothly. The removal of the old cartridge was a pain. My cartridge was broken on the inside, so the removal tool did not help. I did use it to remove the new cartridge just to test. It made removal much easier.

After a difficult install it leaked right away. Junk do not buy.

When I opened this, I immediately felt the pulled was a bit more hefty and longer than the previous one I’d purchased at a hardware store. As anyone who’s done it can attest, it’s really difficult to get these cartridges out. This tool made it the easiest of the 4 I’ve pulled!Jury is out on the cartridge it’s self. I’ve always used the Moen OEM version, but thought I’d give this a try. The only difference I could see is that the internal parts of the Moen are metal, and they are plastic on this version (hence 4 stars). So time will tell. This set is worth buying for the puller alone!

Product appears to be same as OEM that had quit supplying hot water. The product had grease packet (small) plus extra clip and rubber seals. Really glad that it also had Allen wrench for faucet handle. The puller was easy to use and worked easily. I think the plastic part that is sent to try to loosen the valve is pretty worthless. With much pressure it would break. It didn’t do anything much for me. I can see how people that have had a real build up might have problem pulling theirs out. Mine was relatively easy to pull out with puller. Cartridge went back in smoothly and seems good for now. Used in a guest room bath and doesn’t get used a lot. Very good value for all the parts and the puller.

Our old valve went bad and was leaking from the showerhead with a constant drip. Instructions for replacement are clear, but if you aren't handy, it might be a little complicated for you. Directions have pictures to help you visualize the removal and reinstall. Comes with the "puller" to remove the old valve. Very important to use the gel on the seals LIBERALLY and on both sides of the seals. If you aren't handy it sometimes is helpful to take pictures of the parts as you remove them to help you remember sequencing. I suggest you read all instructions before you begin. One issue I had was that the valve was not in the correct on/off position when I installed it, so make sure you pay attention to that detail when installing and putting the handle back on. I had to go back and make an adjustment. Not a big deal... just frustrating. Works like a charm and smooth as can be. No more drips! INSTALL NOTE: if you want hotter water you can adjust that while you have the valve unit apart.

A lot of reviews mention that their cartridge leaked, so I went to Moen's website, and looked at the reviews, and they were worse than these reviews. I also went to Home Depot's website that sells actual Moen part, and those reviews were awful as well. But they are 2.5 times the cost ($50 vs. $20) of this cartridge, plus they appear to be identical.Turns out a lot of people had problems with these leaking, although I did not. I imagine that the leaks happen when the rubber parts (including O-rings) get out of alignment during the install it. So you have to be careful. I found that the install tool was very helpful for this purpose, although I wouldn't say the tool is required. The tool helped to keep the cartridge straight when pushing or pulling it. If you don't push it straight, I think it's easier for the rubber pieces to become misaligned. Also, the instructions included also show you how to rebuild the cartridge. Since my o-rings were still in good shape, I took my original cartridge apart and cleaned it and re-lubbed it. There was a lot of dirt in them. I liked the original because it's made mostly out of brass while all the new ones are mostly plastic. After rebuilding it, I used it on a different shower head, and it worked great. For "lube", this cartridge comes with a small amount of lube, but you can use synthetic silicone grease which is also called "O-Ring" or "Divers" grease. Essentially, the silicone grease is NOT made out of petreleum based materials which can eat away at the rubber o-rings, plastic and etc.

It is not nearly as durable as the name brand cartridges but it's a fraction of the price. It did fit fine and changed temperature of the water but it dripped the whole time. It might be worth buying this just for the pulling tool
