I picked up a cheap E46 with a well worn shifter. There was lots of play in the nylon pivot ball and the shifter knob itself was in bad shape and gross from years of use. This shifter is way, way better than stock. I am very happy considering its low cost.On the E46 at least, there is no drilling into the transmission tunnel - the bolts fit within the diameter of the stock shifter hole, and fit tight enough to securely locate it/center it. I did not have a helper to tighten bolts above or the hold the nuts underneath the car, so I drilled out the lower plate for stainless steel rivet nuts (M8-1.25 class 8.8 bolts are what come with it) and that worked out really well. The only negative that is easy to overcome is the fitment of the aluminum bushing over the stock shift rod/linkage. It’s supposed to be 10mm ID but it’s slightly smaller than that. Be extremely careful with a drill, because you want it to be snug, but you shouldn’t have to force it over the stock shift rod/linkage. I had a carbide burr (a round file would work too) and carefully increased its ID ever so slightly. The shift knob itself was surprisingly heavy which I like. I didn’t think I would like the shape of it, and was thinking about converting to a round weighted ball, but the ball was too short. The height of the included shift knob is ideal. I may convert to a longer teardrop shaped knob. The shift quality is excellent. And that makes a huge difference in how enjoyable a car is to drive.I would absolutely buy this again. For under $50, this a a good investment for your car.

Perfect shifter for a great price. has a tiny bit of play with the longest option available but a very nice shift feel and solid engagement. Easy to install and looks god

Not the easiest install but definitely not bad. Shifter is super high quality for the money. Had to sand down the inside of the bushing it comes with but other than that no real issues.

This chassis mount shifter was a good buy. It was very easy to install, came with all the hardware and was well packaged. It functions as advertised and fitment was not an issue. The product was accurately advertised and is made with good quality material.

I initially had a generic ebay short shifter and when comparing the two. The Ryanstar racing chassis mounted shifter is 10x better. The shifter feel solid, the height is perfect, and shifting overall feels much better. However, I did run into an issue with the threads on the bit that connects to the selector rod it was rusting due to the metal shavings not being cleaned out after being machined. That was only issue I noticed. And if you were wondering I did replace my trans and motor mounts to 95a mounts from garagistics.

The linkage on the bottom is poorly welded and snapped while shifting. Do not recommend.

I decided to try out this budget chassis mounted shifter and after using it for a couple months it works great, totally got rid of my forward and back slop, feels nice and crisp (be warned it won't get rid of side to side play)
