Stays consistent and holds the temps good. I've had this for about 2 weeks and have been monitoring it closely with a heat gun. I tested the top soil, side of the plastic nursery pot and the mat. Temps are consistent and fluxgates as needed to maintain that heat. The controls are a tad confusing at first but you figure them out pretty fast. That solves my soil temp problem for rehabbing plants, now I need a humidifier.

This heat mat is pretty nice, and solves a BIG problem most gardeners have with them. Too many growers I know have literally baked their seed by not knowing the actual soil temperature, which can get perilously high with these mats. This mat solves that issue 2 ways. First, the thermostat can be set to the specific temperature you need, which is different for most seeds, and kept at that temperature, and second, the mat comes with a probe attached that can be inserted directly into the soil so you are sure of the actual SOIL temperature, and not just the temperature of the mat ! Solid gold ! I use a pot filled with soil, but no seed, to keep the probe in, and never be unsure of the temperature where it matters, in the soil ! I would've given this mat 5 stars, because the probe is awesome , but the wiring seems to cause a lot of strain where it connects to the mat, and I'm not really convinced it will last long if not permanently fixed in place where you will be using it. Other than that it's a great mat, and I am already using it in my indoor garden. It's a bargain at this price, and hope it will last for many years ! Definitely recommended for starting seeds !!

We are doing seed starts year round now. Especially when you're using REALLY expensive seeds, you don't want any of them to fail. You don't want to have to double seed and thin - way too expensive. So, if you want every seed to start, do it in controlled conditions, including temperature. This heat mat is pretty simple/standard. It has an ON/OFF switch, a C/F unit toggle button, and an up button and a down button. You turn it on, pick your units, and set the temp. I did NOT check it with a thermometer, but I put set it 80F and it felt warmer than the cold barn. I set it to 110F and it got pretty warm - almost hot. I have no doubt our first seed start (coming up this week) will go better than it was going, when I just put the starts on top of the fridge "because it's warm there."Quality seems pretty good. I expect it to be with me in 2 years, likely 5, maybe 10.Full endorsement. Five starsNote the high temp in the third photo. When I took the first of the three photos, I had to remove the seed tray, from off of the heat pad. The heat pad responded by cranking up its output to try to recover to the thermostat temperature. I left it off for a minute or two and when I put it back on the heat in the pad was substantial enough that the heat spiked, but only for a minute. This thing works well and it can keep things hot even in a demanding environment where it’s not so warm, like my barn. I re-endorse this at five stars.

Killed my seedlings. Horrible. Should’ve tested if it was temperature accurate before using. The heat level is not what the setting advertises. Does not function as intended.
