The Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Alpha E-mount Retractable Zoom Lens is a retractable zoom lens with a focal length range of 24-75mm in the 35mm format equivalency. It covers shooting lengths from true wide angle to standard portrait length and is a great day-to-day type lens, especially since its unique retractability keeps it very compact. When powered on, the lens expands, but in its off position the lens is only 1.2" (30mm) which will fit in your pocket. When expanded, it has a surprisingly large zoom range and access to its dual-function control ring for manual focus and zooming. Its Power Zoom capability in AF mode and Internal Stepping Motor provide, fast, smooth and quiet autofocus which is helpful when shooting video with this lens.
The lens is a Sony E-mount lens that is compatible not only with the NEX cameras but also with the NEX Handycam Camcorders. The built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system reduces the effect of camera shake which is particularly problematic when tracking moving subjects in video or shooting photos in low-light. The OSS provides approximately 4-stops of shutter speed correction to help create blur-free images no matter the shooting conditions. Four Aspherical elements and one ED element correct for curved perspective at wide-angle lengths and chromatic aberration at telephoto lengths to provide sharp, high contrast imaging across the entire frame.

This is the most useful "kit" lens for my camera, the Sony A6000. I broke the original SELP1650 that I got with my camera when I dropped it. The few weeks that I was without it really made me appreciate the lens. I leave it on my camera all the time, especially when I want to travel light. I also have the 50mm prime and the longer kit zoom, 55-210. The SELP1650 by far gets the most use. When I carry my camera around for "street" shots, it is ready for anything. This lens is the most versatile and handy to carry. Many of the A6000 accessories (cases and underwater housings) are made to fit the camera with this particular lens attached. The lens performs extremely well and is really inexpensive. Get it bundled with your camera or as "international packaging", you will save quite a bit. I have a small collection of 49mm filters. I got a cheap 40.5mm to 49mm step up adapter so I can just use the same set on the SELP1650.

Got this lens for an original NEX-5, since it was purchased without one. I have used a kit lens from another NEX camera on this NEX-5. Sharpness is very similar between this pancake lens and kit lens. Size of this 16-50mm is just a tad over half of a kit lens. Widths between the two are about the same. This pancake lens is almost the size of 16mm f2.8 prime, only 4mm longer. Keep in mind when this lens gets powered up, it extends to nearly double it's length. Not a problem for me. On older NEX's like original 5 & 3, there is a great bit of vignetting in the corners at the widest end of this lens. That's a reasonable tradeoff for having a very wide angle. Some people, who do extensive measuring of lenses, say this lens is more like 14.7mm lens then a 16mm, but on compatible NEX's like NEX-6, the final image is slightly cropped to eliminate corner vignetting, which brings the image back to about 16mm wide. There is also some moderate distorsion, especially at the widest algles. Overall I'm very happy with this lens, since positives far outweigh the negatives for me. I would encourage anyone looking at 16mm prime to save some $ & get this instead. â…” faster aperture is not worth being stuck at 16mm all the time, and this has OSS (Sony's optical image stabilizer), which the prime does not. Hoping Sony will make more pancake lenses in the future!

Great price! The lens worked well but I ultimately went with an Amazon renewed that looked brand new. May buy one of these again in the future.

This is a gray market lens which means there is no Sony Warranty. Lens came in a plain box with no Sony paperwork and no REAR lens cap. Disappointed in Amazon in not listing this as Gray Market. I have purchased gray market camera equipment in the past but knew what I was ordering ahead of time. Have used the lens and attached a couple of pictures. Bottom line without all the technical jargon this lens is replacing the 18-55 kit lens that came with my NEX 7 and since we do a lot of traveling wanted to get a smaller lens footprint to match the size of the camera so it now very closer to being pocket able although cargo pockets not a shirt poocket. So far I can't see much of a difference in sharpness in my old lens and this one which for relativity cheap lens is very good. There is slight barrel distortion after the in camera adjustment but at 16mm and should be expected. (If NEX 7 version is 1.0 or lower must get firmware upgrade before using lens). Over all pleased with lens just wished it was advertised as gray market and no rear lens cover come on!

Recomendado . Ya que es cómodo , liviano , de la marca Sony , mejor que muchas opciones genéricas . Rango de 16-50mm perfecto para video . Capta de forma rápida el seguimiento de la cara y no tiene alto nivel de ruido al grabar. En general un lente que debes tener en tu camara Sony. Tengo el color plata y luce genial

This is the "newer" kit lens that is included with Sony NEX (being transitioned into the alpha lineup) cameras. Most people probably won't be buying this separately.The older version that was included up to the NEX-5R (I think) is big and has standard non-powered zoom. This one is a lot more compact. Now you can really have a compact NEX set up with a zoom lens (before, the only option is to use the pancake prime lens). The zoom is now electronic, but you can still use the ring to zoom in and out aside from the lever. The ring can also be used for focus adjustment, which is really nice to use, imo easier than the "stiffer" ring on the regular lenses.Quality wise, it's okay. Again, it's a kit lens. Most people wouldn't have a problem with the image quality, but watch for distortions on the sides/corners, especially at the widest setting. I can still see it in some cases, even with the in-camera JPEG of my NEX-5R. I don't remember the original bigger kit lens had such distortions. Definitely not the enthusiast's lens. Depth of field is very limited, and its slowness becomes apparent quickly in low-light situations. The compactness makes it really useful for travel though. I now carry this alongside the 35mm prime.This bulk packaging is the kit lens separated from a bundle. What I got was just the lens inside a brown box... without the back lens cover. Sure, it's covered with bubble wrap, but I assume the back side of the lens is pretty much "exposed" from the moment it was taken out from whatever original bundle it came with. That may not bode well with some people. The upside is you are paying less than the regular retail version that Sony offers.

α6400のダブルズームキットに付いているレンズ。新品で買っても安く、なぜか謎に評価が低かったりしたので中古でも未使用だったり、美品が1万円で買えちゃうのですが私はα6000シリーズはほぼこのレンズで使用しています。なんせ小さい、ズームレンズですが、パンケーキレンズチックです。小さいカメラに小さいレンズ。これこそがα6000シリーズの真骨頂でしょう。どこにだっていつだって出かける時にひょいと手に取った持っていけます。デカいカメラバッグに入れて、撮影の為に出かけるようカメラじゃありません。いつでもそばに居ていい手の平に乗るカメラですよ。イマイチ評価の根拠になっている描写が云々に対して言いますと近年のレンズで、まともな描写をしないレンズなんてありません。きちんと写るレンズです。拡大して見て分かる差に拘ったり開放F値に拘って（これも開放F3.5でそんなに暗くないけど）大きなレンズを付けるくらいならフルサイズのカメラに大三元や単焦点レンズを付けた方がいいです。並べても、その手の高画素機フラッグシップレンズで撮ったのと、本レンズで撮ったのと見分けられる人、気付く人も居ませんし普通の人はそんなとこ気にしてないし見てません。このレンズこそα6000シリーズの魅力、戦闘力を発揮できるレンズだと思っています。カメラなんですとにかく持ち出しましょう。毎日でも、絶対そっちの方がいいです。私はそういう部分が大好きなレンズです。

item delivered very quickly, bubble wrapped twice over, once the item itself, then the box holding the item, which is then put into another box. bulk packaging as described in the product description, but happy to do without the packaging to reduce unnecessary packaging waste.just tested on my NEX5N and item worked as it should, happy with the price paid.
