This was supposed to be a good European cheese plane. It manufacture in China took it to below mediocre. The handle was poorly lathed and uneven, the metal surface had warbles and the entire plane was flimsy and thin. Shame on the company for letting itself go by sending the work to China and not supervising the quality.

I ordered this cheese slicer to be able to make even slices of cheddar cheese for grilled cheese sandwiches. This slicer works fine on sharp cheddar as long as it's not the crumbly kind. It also works well on parmesan cheese. The slicer is from the original company that invented slicers of this type in Norway. It's very well made and aesthetically pleasing. I really like the beech wood handle, very pretty. I'm happy with my purchase.

These type of Swedish & Norwegian cheese slicers need to have the opening / cutting edge designed at the right angle to slice hard cheeses easily and produce nice intact slices of cheese. The ones made in China (like this one) do not have the cutting edge made correctly. I have tried many different ones made in China and sold on Amazon and at my local grocery store and they do not work. The ones made in Sweden or Norway (for example, the Linden Sweden Cheese Plane sold by Amazon) work. Look closely at any photos to see where they are made before purchasing.By the way, these slicers/planes also work to peal and produce thin slices of cucumbers, carrots, zucchinis. Excellent for soups and salads!

First, I want to thank all the reviewers of this product that led me to buy it. Amazon is the best site ever. I have been looking for years to find a decent cheese slicer like the one I own that is still chugging along. I had given up hope of ever finding a possible replacement for my cheese slicer until I started honing in on the reviews on Amazon. In reading the reviews of the cheese slicers made in Holland, Sweden and Norway, I also came across more than a few writers that mentioned the Hickory Farms cheese slicers and bemoaned the fact that they could never find a replacement for theirs and that it had lasted many years but was not sold anymore.I rushed to the kitchen and got out my cheese slicer and looked on the back and there, I found the imprint that it was made in Norway and was, in fact, the much sought after Hickory Farms branded cheese slicer.I brought the slicer out from the kitchen and compared to the picture of the one on the Amazon web site and it is an exact match! It simply has to be the same slicer and it gets terrific reviews. With my hands shaking I immediately bought 3 of them. One is for us and the other 2 are Christmas presents.I got it for $14.66 but saw it from another vendor for $22. Incidentally, my old Hickory Farms one does not indicate who the maker is.I have used my current cheese slicer for many years and wash it only in the dishwasher. The rosewood handle has faded but is still intact. I am very excited about finally finding what I believe is the instrument I have been looking for for many years. And I agree with one reviewer I read that most of the slicers you see, even expensive ones, are a complete waste compared to this one.Once again, Amazon to the rescue and again, my thanks to the many contributors of recommendations to the site.

I generally use products for several months to a year or more before reviewing them, and I have enjoyed using this cheese slicer very much. It does seem that the best cheese slicers are made in Norway or Holland. It is so well crafted, and light weight but sturdy with a smooth wood handle. The blade slices medium-hard cheeses, such as cheddar, perfectly and easily. I also use to slice thin shavings of harder cheeses such as parmesan-reggiano. I prefer wood handles, but I always wash it by hand. If you read other reviews, you will note that the dishwasher will ruin the handle. I use it all of the time and I love it. It is expensive but worth it.

I was really excited to find this cheese slicer because my old retro 1970’s one that belonged to my MIL met a sad ending after decades of use. This one has been ok. It’s not as sharp but cuts cheese nicely as long as it’s not super soft cheese… until today when I cut some cheddar and went to wash it and the handle suddenly snapped in half while I was rinsing it. I don’t think I was every putting any pressure on the handle, it was just suddenly in two pieces. The snap is so clean, I almost wonder if two pieces of wood were glued together to make the handle and then gave out. It was nice while it lasted but I won’t be replacing this one with this same brand.

This is the only cheese slicer I like using. I have never found another one that compares, and after growing up with the same model I had to buy another one for myself. I'd rather use a paring knife than settle for another cheese slicer. Everyone should have one of these.

The item arrived before expected date because product which I expected to be from Norway arrived from Singapore and was un-branded product. Typical cheap China quality but at 4 times the price of similar product from China. Was buying for friend that had the original cheese slicer a bit blunt after 20 years of use but still better than the new one.

Very cheaply made, while costing more than better ones available. Made to look like a genuine Norwegian cheese slicer by Bjorklund, but is much lower quality.
