It is recommended that you use a rubber or plastic head hammer so that you do not damage the taps. Tubing pushes right on to the barbed end of these taps. Taps can be used for collecting sap through tubing either in a tubing system or jut using 5/16 tubing to gravity feed a jug, pail, or tank at the base of your tree. -Can be cleaned by boiling in water each season to improve yield. -Made to last a lifetime with proper care. -Use a 5/16" drill bit to drill a hole into your tree and simply hammer this tap into place. -Made in USA. Installed easily with a 516 drill bit and a couple of light taps with a hammer. Very happy that they will last forever.

Arrived on time and this is my second order. I tried the first order of spiles and liked them enough I ordered another 25. Sturdy and durable. They will be in use for a long time. Great value also.

They work perfectly. hose fits snug without being impossible to remove, they are sturdy enough to tap in without bending or dinging. This does appear to be a machined product, so make sure you wash and boil them before use to remove anything remaining on them such as oil or metal slivers. not a determent, simply a fact of bulk machined products.

A quality product (though you really should ask me in 20 years). Buyer should be aware that these are straight spouts – they are not angled like many taps are – so they may not be ideal for all uses.

These spiles are sturdy. The only difficulty I have had is removing hose from them at the end of the season. I was able to twist them off with some effort.
