It looks like regular steel wool to me. But caption says it stainless, so it shouldn't rust, right? I use it to tuck under the bottom row of vinyl siding, which was not installed with a bottom row secure strip. Works so far.

A friend recommended steel wool to put around the opening of our air conditioner conduit that goes up the outside of our house and into the attic to keep rats out. Last summer we could hear them dancing and playing in the attic at night. But after I stuffed the steel wool into it it got quieter and quieter. Our pest control company said it definitely has helped keep them out of our attic. Haven't had any noise up there since I put it in summer of 2023, and it is now December 2024.

The listing claims that it is stainless steel, but that couldn't be further from the truth.First of all, the description boasts about its effectiveness in deterring mice and blocking holes and cracks, but it fails to mention one crucial detail: this product rusts easily if it gets wet! Within a single night, I noticed that a magnet had a strong attraction to the steel wool, and the next morning, it was covered in rust. This completely defeats the purpose of using stainless steel, as rust can compromise its durability and effectiveness.The product is advertised as being made of high-quality metal fiber, similar to wool, which is supposed to be soft, thick, and flexible. While it does have those qualities, it's disheartening to see how quickly it rusts. Additionally, it claims that small animals can't chew through the steel fibers, but what good is that if the steel wool itself is prone to rusting and deterioration?Furthermore, the listing mentions that the steel wool can be easily cut to the desired size with ordinary scissors, which is true. However, it fails to mention the importance of wearing gloves when handling it. The steel fibers can cause injury if not handled with care, and this vital information should have been included in the description.Overall, I find this product to be misleading and not up to the standards I expected. Mouse's in the Houses! This mesh is what you stuff around pipe openings to prevent mice squeezing through. I use it on both sides. To keep it in place I pack Gorilla Glue or Liquid Nails pushed into the mesh. Once that fully cures, I add DAP 230 caulking as a thin top layer for moisture resistance. You never want to have a mesh that can hold moisture because is not fully sealed. Wood around it will rot if you don't. There are videos on the methods. Furthermore it cuts out air drafts, bugs, etc. Wear disposable gloves with the glues and caulk or you will have a grand mess with the regret.

Complete RIP OFF. This is absolutely, positively, beyond the shadow of a doubt, NOT STAINLESS. I purchased this expecting it to be stainless steel like the title claims, otherwise why would I pay $21 for $3 worth of steel wool from any old hardware store. Turns out, that's just what it is. Normal steel that rusts instantly when exposted to water or humidity. This did not last a single weekend before the exposed sections crumbled into an orange powder. I'm returning the rest. Maybe I should wash the rest of the roll in water before sending it back...
