Had that nasty p1443 code in my 97 T-bird. I replaced the air flow selenoid first with no change and I will say that if you're going to change these parts just do both of them at the same time and while you're in there go ahead and replace the vacuum lines also because mine were dry rotted and would crumble when you touch them. Put the purge valve in and exactly two driving cycles later the light went out so I would say success.

Hose connections were smaller; had to use hose clamps to keep 'em on, but it is working so far [3 weeks] .Did turn off check engine light.
