This flat gasket is a tight weave fiberglass that works well. Easy to install because of self adhesive.

I replaced the seal around the door but the fire was still burning too fast/hot in our wood insert. I pulled the door and inspected around the glass. The seal looked rather flat and likely needed to be replace...yep it was toast.I wasn't 100% sure this was the right stuff to use, but affordable enough to give it a go. Being 1 inch wide I started on the edge of the glass then folded over on the front and back. The tape is sticky and 'burns' in place, although we had a couple spots on the inside of the glass that did not attach perfectly. However the edge and exterior of the glass sealed perfectly. With the exterior and edges now sealed, my fire burns nice and slow, and I would say we are nearly doubling our burn times for wood. Love that low slow burn heat it gives off (cats love it too). I can add a couple of logs at bed time and wake up to a warm house in the morning.

So far so good. Came undamaged and was easy to install. The 3m tape was easy too use. I have not had a fire yet so I can not say how the adhesive holds up long term. I also cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol a day prior. I choose to stick it to the fire place itself because my door edge was too skinny and I figured it would stick and last longer if it had a flat surface that was wider than the glue strip. It will get hotter than the door so hopefully the glue holds. The glue is rated to 600°f and I just have a pellet stove that never gets above 300°f so we'll below the rating. So, technically it should be fine. If not I have some high heat gasket maker I can use as glue or buy some cement. But if I have to buy cement I want my money back because I should have just gotten the kit with it to begin with.

Worked great on my smoker, nice tight seal due to the thickness.

The tape needs more fireplace glue to work.

The 3m tape was extremely efficient to put on the replaced wood stove gasket. The best part is it fit the door for wood and the door for ashes! Worked extremely well!

I used the 1/4 inch thick gasket, the backing was branded 3M, package was unbranded. After years of fighting with the braided style - the glue always seems sub-standard and fails before the cold season is over - this was a snap to apply.Because its a flat ribbon the corners can't be continuous like braided gasket and have to be cut and butted. i ran the long sides a bit long and butted the short sides.I did notice a chemical smell for the first dozen or so fires but only when opening the stove door to add more wood. The smell has gone now, several more fires later.Fingers crossed it stays stuck long term.
