Read a few reviews that said it wouldn't even let water through, so it didn't work as a strainer. When I took it out of the packing bag, I tested it immediately with just water, and was really disappointed. It seemed like those reviewers were right- water literally just sat in the bowl, like it was a spoon! So I decided to look into this a little further; rubbed my fingers on the bottom, and water started coming through where I rubbed. Could this be something left over from manufacturing? A release jig release agent that was increasing the water tension? So I washed it in warm, soapy water several times. All of a sudden, it worked beautifully! I washed it again thoroughly, dried it, and have now used it several times (works great for cleaning pomegranate inner rind from the fruit - the white stuff floats and this catches even the tiniest pieces of it!). Seems very sturdy, and what I really like is that the strainer portion isn't a screen, it's actually a piece of metal with holes presumably lasered or somehow otherwise bored through. The holes are very smooth, no burrs. So I suspect that it'll hold up a lot longer than something made of screen material, and the holes won't enlarge like wire screen mesh can. Give it a try; I'm really glad that I did. I paid full price for this, my own money, so this is a real review.

Very easy to use and clean. Convenient to own one at home. Product is a little bit dented, just very minor, doesn't affect usage.

It is ultra fine and works great. I make chicken stock out of rotisserie chickens I buy, and this skimmer works great.

It separated the grease from the top layer of my pho so easily while it was still hot !! You can see the small bowl is full of grease, and no broth got into it with this tool. The only downside is how tiny it is, a larger spoon would’ve made this much faster & easier . This is about the size of a serving spoon.

Although marketed as a fat skimmer, I'm using it to make ricotta cheese. I needed a flat, fine-mesh sieve to gently lift the newly-formed curds from the whey. This item does the trick and as a bonus, is not a flimsy wire mesh as found in most strainers, but instead a metal plate containing finely-drilled holes. As long as it doesn't corrode, it should last a lifetime.Follow-up: I've produced multiple batches of ricotta and this skimmer spoon is functioning perfectly. Unlike wire mesh strainers, which clog with fine particles of curd, this spoon captures the curd but continues to strain whey throughout the harvest.

Product is not fit for purpose. It’s so small. I’ve been a chef for 35 years and never have I seen a fat skimmer that is so small. I feel ripped off.

well made, with a well to contain the liquid. filter is a bunch of pin holes.the pin holes may be just a bit too small for thicker liquid or sauce to pass throughthe handle cushion comfort can be improved so that holding it is unlike holding a knife.effectiveness : 8/10
