We used these to tack down a tape strip on top of a wooden hutch. You have to tap gently and right in the middle but doing so meant these went into the wood just fine. No breaks. Just don't treat them like nails and pound away, especially at the edge. I would imagine that would be why people are breaking off the heads.

Tacks are tacks. I do wish they were a little shorter though. I used them to pin up the headliner in my car and they are ever so slightly too long in some places.

These are well built - they feel a lot more substantial than the ones I remember from high school. The silvered finish looks slick, and I really like the flat top too. Not much else I can think of to add, they are just thumbtacks after all!

These are great; solid, strong, and long. Definitely high quality and can hold heavy things.Standard and long push pins just weren't working. These are almost too wide/long for an office message board, but we made them work - these aren't going to fall out.
