I was able to use my dollar tree scissors and get them cut with a lot of hard work so it may just be my cheap scissors but I honk it would be tough no matter what. Either way it worked perfectly and held up the cake! This cake was all buttercream so needless to say this sucker was heavy!

These are not rods, they are cylinders.And very cheap, thin walled cylinders, at that.A note to the seller. Use a dictionary.Rods are solid; cylinders are hollow down the center and walled.

I used these to make my first wedding cake, which was extremely heavy, a 3 tier cake. Each level had 2 layers of cake. So there were 6 cakes stacked on top of one another. This cake consisted of about 20 boxes of cake mix. And then there is all the icing. So you can imagine the weight! I used the wilton cake plate separators for each tier and also these dowel rods. They were AMAZING! Cake was soo sturdy and there was no fear of it fallng over or sinking into one another! I def. recommend this product! :) VERY PLEASED!
