My wife is the quilter, and this was a gift for her. I actually bought it because she needed a felt board for piecing, so that she could arrange the parts and be sure of cuts before sewing the block together. Felt boards work great for this because they grab the fabric and the cut pieces won’t slide... you can hold it up to look at the block and the pieces won’t fall off. While shopping for a felt board, I ran into this. Felt is wool, this is wool... so maybe I buy this one for the same price as a cheap felt board and it will work, and provide a larger ironing surface than the smaller square ironing pad she has. Well, it worked perfectly for both! Holds fabric for piecing, and is a great ironing pad besides. Two for the reasonable price of one, and it came with a full size silicone Iron pad as a freebie. Now, about the smell: I read the inserts in the package warning of a “wool smell†that would be present during the first use. I read several Amazon reviews that mentioned it, including one horror story that said it smelled of cat pee and had to be hidden from the dog. Because of this, I opened the package and ironed on it for a while before giving it to my wife. I used multiple settings (including high) with my wife’s quilting iron. No bad smells, and definitely no cat pee odors. Ironed a while longer... nothing. If if held it to my nose, I could detect a slight felty fabric scent, but very slight. I don’t know what all the fuss is, it really had no smell. Perhaps I got a sheep with better hygiene skills, who knows. But no odor problem here. I’m happy with it!

I placed this mat on my ironing board and used it for pressing items as I was sewing. It worked great! I did put a cloth on top as some people mentioned that the mat stuck to their iron. It worked great. It is the perfect size to use on top of my ironing board for pressing seams after sewing.

I have wanted to try a wool mat for quite awhile but was sure I would waste money. WELL This mat is just great and does all it says and plus. Great for crafting I see a new way to iron. No bad smelling and does not harm my table. Worth buying

The product is fine. The ironing mat works great. But.... the packaging it arrived in was subpar! It was in a torn clear cheap celophone wrap with the address sticker affixed. It is amazing that it didn't slide out and get lost. The silicone iron pad has a 2" slice in it. Not happy about that!!!

Great for using iron without steam. I use my cordless iron and this to iron napkins, bed sheet flange. Good quality and easy to store. Don’t use steam, it goes right through this. Nicely sized for my uses.

Great for quilting and keeps me from pulling out the large steam iron and massive ironing board. I wish I knew about these wool mats sooner. It retains heat when pressing quilt pieces and makes nice perfect crisp quilt blocks. Love love my new found wool mat.

Its great! Just what I need. Haven't had any problems with it, but I always put it inside a pillowcase before ironing on top.
