I ordered this gambrel set after my prior gambrel buckled (literally folded in half) under the weight of one of my Berkshire boar hogs. The design of this gambrel is great for threading the hooks through the animal’s legs. My old gambrel had kind of a coat hook shape at the ends, meaning you had to thread the end through and then twist the gambrel to get the hook fully engaged. It was awkward and always aggravating. With the design on this gambrel the pointed end slides through the slit between the tendon and bone which makes it so much easier to secure the legs. And because it slides in easier with less of an opening I am way less likely to accidentally cut the tendons while securing the legs.The spread on this gambrel from the bottom of the hooked portions where the weight settles once hung could be longer for my purposes - effectively keeping the legs spread further apart, but I managed to get the job done with this configuration. (It was just a bit cramped in the crotch area, but once I was through that everything was great.). I honestly did not use either the rope or the pulley as I hooked the gambrel directly to the bucket of my tractor so I can’t really comment on the capacity of either the rope or the pulley. But the gambrel is great! Very heavy duty and sturdy without being bulky.

I use this for my pigs my pig weight was 500lbs. It did not hold up at all. Was not worth the cost at all. One on top is used the bottom is not used.
