I’ve only used these once, but so far I’m happy with the design and build of these clippers. I have a 42 pound Australian cattle dog mix and the regular size works for him. They look like they could certainly open big enough to work with any dog.The clippers fit in my hand well and seem to be well-made.I particularly like the design wherein the clipper opening is restricted to only how much nail you want to snip off. I think that’s brilliant.Again, I’ve only used them once, but out of the package, the clippers were sharp and snipped the nails without crushing them.

I brought this to trim my iguana nails. I’ve used other electric nail trimmers that heated as I was trimming my iguana nails as well as making her skiddish because of the noise. I also feared of cutting them too low. These are the best. I can cut my iguana nails while she is lounging around without needing anyone to her hold her. It’s quite and I can also adjust it to the smallest setting without cutting too much and risk of bleeding or hurting my iguana. She just looks at me while I cut them. It also cuts clean without splitting the nails. So if you have a skiddish animal when it’s time to cut their nails, this is definitely a life changer and very easy to use. Highly recommend especially for small animals like mine

I have owned at least 4 other sets of trimmers for dog claws, even had a rotary tool type sanding trimmer. Nono of these tools ever let me trim the claws of any of our little dogs. The 3 morkies went nuts whenever I attempted to trim their miserable black nails where you can't see where the blood vessel is. So gave up after fighting 3 dogs and applying too much styptic powder to their bleeding nails. Had the vet or groomer do the claws, but that is now up to $5.00 per animal per visit. Hot a mew Maltese puppy that has the sharpest claws yet, but the nails aren't black and I can see the blood vessel. Still dreaded trying to trim the nails, but decided to try. Of course, I had thrown away all the old clippers so I came to Amazon and found these trimmers. Still hesitated for a couple of weeks until my arm got scratched about 6" during bathtime. Wife and I took on the trimming 2 days ago and the little dig got her nails trimmed! Wife gave her treats whie I used the trimmers and these trimmers with the adjustable hole size worked so easy! Adjust the wheel ti fit the end of the nail in. Clip! Done! Dog didn't mind at all. So sharp, don't think she even noticed. Can't speak ti the larger size for bigger animals, but this smaller one is great for a 7 pound Maltese. Have no problems saying I will trim her nails from now on!!

This review only applies to dogs. Never tried it on a cat, or Mongolian tit mouse, etc. What a relief! Once adjusted to your pet's toenail size so the hole between the blades stops sliding up the nail well before the quick, the sharp blades cut through the nail without splintering. And because it is impossible to cut anything outside of the toenail inserted into the adjustable hole between the blades, no worries about cutting your pet's toes or stabbing their foot if they squirm around. And because it holds the nail to be cut in place and cuts quickly and cleanly, your pet has very little time to squirm out of position. One possible criticisms would be using the cutters as recommended leaves the nails a bit long. But it is so easy to cut them again, all you have to do is schedule nail trimming a bit more often. Another thing to note that really has nothing to do with the clippers themselves, is the clean nail cut leaves sharp edges that should be filed down a bit. I use a small battery powered grinder that is wimpy enough that there is very little chance of taking more material off then just the sharp edge of the cut nail. Such grinders get the surface of the nail hot enough to smell like burnt hair, so a wimpy one is a good choice for touch ups that will not scare your pet.

This is the third Zen Clipper I've purchased. I started with a "fixed size" model; it worked on some of my 16 lb. dog's toes, but 'one size doesn't fit all' my dog's nails.I did like the concept and the quality construction, so I ordered the standard size adjustable model Zen clipper. It changed my dog's life. He's always been terrified and nearly unmanageable for his nail-clipping; now he's becoming almost docile because there is NEVER an accidental overcut. But it's a bit too beefy for a small animal like mine. While that wouldn't be an issue for a dog 25 lbs or more, its wide jaws are difficult to work with on such a small paw. I thought the "Junior" model might be my dream clipper, and it arrived just when I need to trim my dog's nails. What a disappointment!First, I set the Junior to match the opening on my standard Zen clipper (4.4 mm on my calipers). The problem showed up on the first toenail. When I got the nail in position and squeezed the handle, it met the opposite handle before the nail snipped, and I couldn't apply further pressure. On the second try the nail did cut, but not cleanly. The second toenail snipped on the first try--but only just as the handles met! Unfortunately, the pivot joint flexed slightly in the process, which left another imperfect cut. It caused enough discomfort, too, that I checked to make sure I hadn't somehow nicked the quick. I hadn't, but by that point I knew these clippers were of no use to me.The "Junior Zen Clipper" is well made and all, but it's extremely lightweight. It should be called the "Micro Zen Clipper". I wouldn't recommend it for any dog over about 6 or 7 pounds. I guess I expected from this otherwise excellent company.

It’s reasonably well made and the adjustment is very fine which is great for a kitten to make sure you avoid the quick. The issue I have with it is that the jaws are very big, to the point that I can barely see my cats claws while I’m trying to get them in the hole and taking several attempts. What should be a two second job per claw is taking a lot longer and the cat starts to get restless. The jaws are unnecessarily large and could be significantly smaller so you can see what you’re doing and would also be easier to manoeuvre the claw in without the paw obstructing it.Probably fine for a dog. Overall a great idea but a bit large and over engineered.

I was surprised at how easy these clippers were to use.My 8 month old kitten is quite lively! but we were able to clip her nails surprisingly easily with these clippers. Once set to an approximate size, the hole easily slides over a nail, allowing for an easy cut. The motion is easy, quiet (so it doesn't freak her out) and they cut cleanly.Very happy with this purchase.

very handy to have the adjust able cutting hole size, for different size dogs and for different size claws on the same dog.
