So far so good in below 0 temperatures. I use it with an aerator and still have a 5 to 6 foot opening in the pond after a week of pretty cold temperatures.

I was fed up with the winter water heaters I had previously bought at the local farm supply store. One season and they were done. We also use some rubber tanks for our miniature donkeys and I did not want an exposed heater element that could melt or set fire to the rubber tank. I purchased four of these to see how they worked. After just a few nights and freezing weather, I was sold and ordered more. Today I ordered enough for all of our tanks. One real advantage of these is the extra long power cord. This makes getting power to the tank much easier. You may have to rearrange how the cord comes out of the heater if you want it to float on the top of the water which is how we do it. I highly recommend these heaters. For the typical round or oblong tank, a 500 watt heater is ample for our TN weather.

Melts ice, but also trips the outlet breaker nonstop so actually no, it doesn’t melt the ice.

Very impressive product. Designed well, the plastic cage is just what I needed to prevent the heater element from contacting the pond liner.

Worked well for 2 days in my small fish pond. The water temp was up to 47 degrees with outdoor temps in the mid 30s and lows in the teens. After 2 days my heater tripped the circuit. I found the heater had somehow melted the plastic as well as the styrofoam-like material that allows it to float. I sent it back for a refund. Wish I would have listened to the prior reviews I read.
