I will preface this with this statement, "I do not order items that I do not intend to use myself", that said; I have also decided to NOT review items I order until they have been in service for some time. I feel that their true worth can then be assessed.These are being used on a classic COE semi truck project I am building . While specifically saying "BUTT" joint, mine is NOT but a slip on joint, I was very pleased to find that they are maluable enough to conform to the two different. pipe sizes and formed a perfectly clamped joint, SWEET. I will say here that they are tad on the short side. I am not sure how well they would hold a butt joint that had a degree of movement to it simply because their clamping range is kinda short.Bottom line; mine worked perfect, not as intended but they did work. For that reason I do recommend them.

These clamp fine and I'd only have reservations using them if the pipe is oriented vertically, like on a down pipe. If your section of exhaust is mostly horizontal, like under a truck, these should work fine as a butt joint. Also if you're only holding on an exhaust tip, this should also work well. Worst case, if you're able to drill through the tough stainless with a carbide drill bit, you could use a couple sheet metal screws (self drilling screws won't work well on stainless) to keep the ends from slipping out from vibrations and bumps.Fabricators:One other use of these is for fabricators who are tig welding 5" diameter exhausts. You can probably split each clamp into two clamps, and then use an abrasive wheel to make several large slots/holes along the band.Then you can use the band clamp to align your 5" exhaust pipe sections/elbows and tack weld it through the slots you just made. Take the clamp off, and now you can complete the full weld.
