We love dark roast coffee and have been grinding our own beans for our drip coffee maker for years. We tried a coffee machine with a built-in grinder and that was suboptimal, so we stuck to our 25yo small Krups blade grinder (you know the kind; black with a clear top and grinds only 1/2C of beans at a time.) This was our standard method of making what we thought was delicious home brewed coffee until we went on a coffee tour in Costa Rica. We realized that not only were we buying over-roasted beans from various mass produced brands sold at Costco, but we needed to up our grinding game. I searched for days for the right grinder to get and everywhere it seemed that the recommended brand was the Baratza. I wasn't satisfied with the reviews that it was getting nor did I want to pay the hefty price tag since we only make drip not espresso style at home. I just wanted an affordable, reliable grinder with a small profile that did medium grind well. I was about to pull the trigger on the Baratza until I came across a couple of glowing reviews for the Aromaster. It was available on Amazon with next day delivery (couldn't wait another day to improve my morning coffee) so I purchased it.In a nutshell, this little thing is fantastic. Comes in a variety of colors (although we chose black because our coffee maker is black), small profile, modern looking, fairly quiet, 48 grind settings (really, who needs that many), UV filtered hopper, antistatic (didn't appreciate this feature until I used it and realized I don't need to brush grounds off the sides of the container), and a container that seals with a silicon stopper to keep pre-ground granules fresh. But does it work?We unpacked it and hubby quickly read through the instructions (he didn't want to, but I made him). Yes, it's pretty straight forward but washing it did allow us to take a good look at the burr mechanism. After washing and drying all of the components, we easily reassembled it, filled up some beans and set the grind right smack in the middle (24) for medium grind. We guessed at the setting for how long to grind, so we chose 20 sec. That amount of time didn't grind many beans so we did it again but set it for 40 sec, which together filled a little over half of the container. We removed the container and popped off the lid. WOW. Talk about a beautifully consistent grind! The coffee granules looked like lovely grains of sand and almost all the same size! What a difference from our Krups where we'd have a guessing game every morning on how long to depress the mechanism and the result was grinds of various sizes. This was a far cry from that!We have a nice cooking weigh scale which we used to eventually determine the correct ratio for us. In Costa Rica, we learned the correct ratio was 14:1, but with the grind at 24 and the beans that we have, that was a bit too robust for us so we increased the ratio until we settled on 19:1. Disclaimer: Our beans from Costco are "Espresso Blend" (which we learned is actually a marketing gimmick and they're actually just over-roasted) so to be fair, once we open our new bags of coffee beans from Costa Rica, this ratio will likely change. The coffee that we brewed, needless to say, is rich, smooth, and delicious. We can taste the difference as there was more flavor extracted from the granules. I'm enjoying a cup right now as I write this. I can tell it's over-roasted, but with the ratio adjustments, we manage to turn it into a very enjoyable cup to compensate. After using it 4x already, we conclude that the Aromaster is an EXCELLENT grinder for medium, drip coffee. It doesn't make a mess and I feel more comfortable pre-grinding some extra coffee and storing it in the container with the silicone stopper to stay fresh for a day or so (not more though) escpecially since it's UV filtered. The burr mechanism is sturdy and you can tell by the sound that it is well-constructed. Best of all, this grinder is affordable compared to the others in the market and honestly I think it's more aesthetic than the Baratza. While it's not whisper quiet, it's definitely quieter than our Krups grinder which was loud enough to wake someone up from a deep sleep. I honestly can't believe more people aren't buying this brand. If you are new to grinding fresh beans or are like us and advancing to a burr grinder from a blade grinder, keep in mind that you will still have to do some math (or trial and error) to determine the bean grind and weight per ounce/cup that suits your taste and the beans you're using. So you'll definitely need a good weigh scale and some taste testing in the beginning and the ratios may change every time you try new beans and depending on the roast. But oh it's so worth it for that perfect cup of coffee and the Aromaster will definitely get you there! I don't know how this grinder fairs for fine grind like espresso or French press, but I can tell you right now that it does a fantastic and consistent job for medium grind. We are very pleased with this purchase and I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.

I used to use a blade grinder before because I wanted to save a little money. Nope. I did some research and wanted to find a decent burr grinder that was reasonably priced and will work. Found this one and I’m already in love.First impressions, this has such a quiet motor compared to the blade grinder I had and this is bigger than the blade grinder. You’re definitely paying the money for a better motor that’s for sure. It almost sounds like the burr grinder inside our espresso machine which is also nice and quiet (in terms of grinders that is).I haven’t used it for long, so I’m not sure about longevity yet, but for its price point I’m hoping it will last a while. I haven’t really seen any overheating problems for the amount I need. You might have to play around with the grind size a bit for sure, as I was trying to find the right size for a pour over (for my personal taste). Don’t be afraid to play around with grind size first, as it really is a big factor in how your coffee tastes. All the parts including part of the burr come apart for easy cleaning. The bean brush is a nice little inclusion, not sure if I’ll use it though. I recommend if you want this thing clean on the inside where you can’t reach, I recommend getting Urnex grinder pellets when you buy this. I work in a coffee shop and I know how oily and dirty these can get on the inside. They are another expense but it does help with the longevity for your grinder.I don’t grind for too long, as I only grind for about 1 or 2 servings of 12 oz cups (2 tablespoons per 6 ounces). Not sure how this grinder works for long grind periods, but it does have a 3 minute max for grinding time, so keep that in mind as it will need a rest period after that. I also find that you need to set the timer to around 20 seconds if you’re going to grind beans for 12 ounces if you want a reference! If you’re looking for a burr grinder and you’re trying to improve your coffee taste at home, I recommend this one as it is quiet, has parts you can take apart and clean, and for its consistent grind size which is what you’re going to get with a burr grinder nonetheless. The grind adjuster is easy enough to figure out, and putting it together was not a hard task. Just don’t make a mistake like I did and forget to put the burr back in after cleaning it first haha.Overall I love it!TLDR; quiet motor compared to cheap grinders, easy to put together, easy and understandable grind adjuster, and consistent grind size.

Grinder does a great job and is rather quiet. Using it daily and it’s super clean. Absolutely no static or grind dust coming out of the grind container or grinder itself. It’s a nice slim unit too, doesn’t take up much space. Very easy to set the grind style and easy to clean. The 40sec setting makes for a good 12 cup pot.

I am editing this review to account for fast and excellent customer service. The grinder itself is sleek and looks good, easy to manage. But my particular grinder only grinds really fine no matter the grind setting, too fine for French press to pass thru without difficulty. The company contacted me and assured me this is a singular issue and offered a full refund immediately. A rarity these days. I will definitely return to Aromaster for more products.

I'm a high, mid-level coffee nerd. I have to admit – my high-level nerdy barista friends said to spring for the more expensive one. I just couldn't justify spending an xtra 100 or 200 bucks. I wanted to see if this might do the job.And s far, I'm really loving this grinder, both in form and function. I don't see any flaws or downsides! It grinds nice and quiet, it's super easy to use. I like the grind basket - especially the option to close off my excess grind with that rubber seal, I dig the timer, the hopper, the thin/sleek design.Win-win for me. Highly recommend.
