I have not yet used this for its primary purpose (ball joint removal) but I want to confirm for interested parties that this worked great for removing the u-joints (on my 2005 Jeep Liberty). The tool, while heavy, is very sturdy and had no problem with the use of a cordless impact wrench on the central screw.

I am ALL about quality. I drive a Ford Ranger still going strong at 212,000 miles. That's QUALITY. I don't like cheap garbage. This kit was absolutely PHENOMENAL. There was ABSOLUTELY ZERO GIVE and I was blasting away at these ball joints with this kit for a couple of minutes STRAIGHT. NO BREAKS. And my impact is NO JOKE. It popped right out. NO BEND AT ALL IN THE THREADS AND THEN I BLASTED MY RUGGED DUTY BALL JOINT IN WITH NO BREAK AND NO LUBE. IMMEDIATE INSERTION. FOR ONLY THIRTY DOLLARS MORE THAN THE CHEAP GARBAGE COMPETITION MADE IN A COUNTRY I WILL NOT NAME. IF YOU ARE REPLACING BALL JOINTS USE THIS KIT MY FELLOW AMERICANS.

I recently got quoted over $1000 at my local stealership to have the ball joints and tie rods replaced on my 2001 F-150 supercrew. So I marched my fanny home, got on amazon and bought all of the parts, a tie rod puller, and this press for about $220. The reviews were good but I was still surprised by the quality and how heavy duty it felt. I've used a Snap-on press before to replace a U-joint and this one felt just as sturdy and worked great for a much cheaper price. I gave it 4 stars because only time will tell how well it really holds up. But again, I was surprised by the quality and very satisfied with the way it performed. My 2 lower ball joints came out easier than expected and I had no problems pressing the new ones in. The instructions are pretty vague and I can see where somebody might have trouble figuring out the adapters but it worked like a charm and I got to stick it to the man by paying almost 5 times less than they wanted to charge me. HA!

Worked well actually got away with using only a 12” crescent took all I got after the first to get the second on. If you have the proper tools to modify the receiver tubing and shorten it you will have zero issue removing and installing the upper ball joint from the arm. Making it properly flush as strong of steel would be my only worry but with a proper breaker bar and some extra leverage you can go it no need to dis assemble the entire hub unless you want to inspect it all anyway. Quality product if you take your time and dis agree with power tools and quality work unless you are a seasoned mechanic. If you took the time to read this, I promise it’s worth the money saved vs. 280 I was going to spend for a universal kit with smaller reviver cups. Thanks be safe jack stands are cool!!!

This service tool stands out against the others I have used of this same style from other brands. It is most noticeable in the C-clamp portion. Just based on the weight when you pick it up, there is clearly more mass here. I have never broken one of these tools (which I have mostly used rentals prior), but it seems to mar less especially on the thrust / forcing bolt. The bolt needs lubrication prior to use for lubrication purposes and a light coat of oil after use to prevent rust should that matter to you. My choice of lubrication is white lithium grease on the bolt then sprayed with a light oil like 3-in-1, air tool oil, marvel mystery oil, etc. The reason for this is the grease seems to provide a base for the oil. You get a nice smooth action and when put back into the case, the grease sort of dries a bit into the threads. Now when you use it again, a spray of oil as before brings it all back to life. I like this because it provides a great storage lubrication without dripping oil all over in the case and when it is next used, just a little oil leaves it nicely lubricated and ready to go.If I needed to find a complaint on this I would have to point out the blow molded case. The only issue is because this tool is so heavy, the case gives very easily to the tool. Should you drop this with the tool inside, I would not expect the case to make it out in one solid piece. under normal use, mine has malformed a bit in some places on the inside and has one indentation on the outside, none of which have any effect on storage or tool usage. When using the tool, you should be aware that it is heavy which can cause it to be difficult to use on or off of the vehicle. It is also important to select the right adapters for both removal and install of your ball joint. I would suggest reading all manufacturer documentation before use and checking out YouTube for an instructional video if you are unsure of anything for some clarification and usage examples. With proper use, this is an amazing tool that will save you a lot of time.

I used this for pressing Axle U-joints in and out on my Jeep JK. I used it with my impact wrench and it worked perfectly without requiring a torch.

Good quality. Holds up to impact wrench, but DID NOT work on the lower ball joints on my 1999 F250 Super Duty 4x4. I’m not blaming Astro Pneumatics, but an application guide would be helpful.I spent over an hour trying to figure out if this basic kit would work on my 1999 F250 Super Duty 4x4. OTC has a really helpful web site with their part numbers for certain applications. I tried to compare the OTC part numbers to the sizes in this Astro Pneumatics kit. No Joy. I could get the lower ball joints out by cutting the stud with a cutoff disc. When I tried to install the new ones, there was just not a combination of adapters that worked. I ended up ordering the Astro Pneumatics 7868 Master Ball Joint Adapter Set. It had the adapter that worked, but I ordered the whole set for one part. (See the picture) If you have scrap pipe around, you might be able to make the part. I didn’t have any material that worked. If you are attacking a Ford F250 or similar, I’d recommend one of the large size presses (i.e. 9” vs the 6” one in these kits.) With the larger press, you get more latitude with the fit of the adapters.

I needed to replace the differential-side u-joint on the rear driveshaft of my Jeep Liberty. I watched a few videos of people banging and pounding on the caps with sockets and hammers to remove the old joints and install the new ones. I then watched a video of somebody using a tool like this to do the job effortlessly, and knew which approach I wanted to take. This kit isn't the cheapest, but it's built like a tank, and did the job perfectly. The amount of time and effort it saved me is easily worth the asking price, not to mention I can use it for a variety of other suspension-related jobs.

On a jeep jk dana 30 i had to use a grinder to modify one of the cups to allow a flush fit for the upper ball joint to be pressed in. Its easy enough to do just a heads up.

I like Astro tools as they are much better than the typical variety available at the local HW store. Professional grade. I'm not a pro, but I suspect a lot of serious DIY folks like myself will want this tool because of Astro quality. That said, the instructions and attachment combinations, could be improved. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out to use the tool on a common GM, G Body, lower ball joint. Once I did figure it out, the tool worked great.
